Nugent, 37, has bounced around the league for the last few years. In his 14-year career, he has played for seven teams, but was most notable during his seven-year run with the Cincinnati Bengals. He was drafted by the Jets in 2005.
He has hit on 81.4 percent of his field goals and 96.3 percent of his extra points in his career. The Patriots will hope that Nugent can do better than Gostkowski, who had missed four extra points and one field goal so far this season.
