Kessler, 26, has gotten experience in his time with the Browns and the Jaguars. He has thrown for 2,215 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions on 64.9 percent completion.
The Patriots now have Tom Brady, Jarrett Stidham and Kessler. After Stidham threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown this week against the Jets, Kessler could battle him for the backup quarterback spot.
