The Minnesota Vikings have traded for tight end Chris Herndon of the New York Jets according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The #Vikings have solved their TE issue, as they are trading for promising #Jets TE Chris Herndon in exchange for draft pick compensation, sources say. Agent @malkikawa later confirmed the deal. Herndon steps right in following Irv Smith’s knee injury.

After an injury to starting tight end Irv Smith Jr., the Vikings had a void at tight end which made this move necessary. Smith is undergoing knee surgery after he suffered an injury in the preseason. There is no timetable for his return.
Herndon, 25, is a fourth-year pro out of Miami. He has 71 catches for 796 yards and seven touchdowns over his three-year career. His best season came when he was a rookie, as he put up 39 catches for 502 yards and four touchdowns.
The Jets will likely use Ryan Griffin and Tyler Kroft as their primary tight ends this season after trading Herndon. In return for the trade, the Jets will get draft pick compensation. There hasn’t been any notice on what the draft compensation will end up being as of yet.
