After a terrific 2019-20 season, Lamar Jackson was voted the number one player of 2020 by his NFL player peers. Jackson threw for 3,102 yards and 36 touchdowns, with 1,200 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns, en route to NFL MVP. He also led the Ravens to the best record in the league and was named to the Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro. Jackson is only 23 years old and has many accolades under his belt. He has already shown that he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
Every year the league conducts a voting process where players in the NFL vote among their peers on who to put on the top 100 NFL players. That list is shown on NFL Network, as well as the NFL’s Instagram page and YouTube channel where they have other NFL players come to sit down and talk about what they think about that player specifically.
Doubts
There was a lot of talk about Jackson not being able to succeed at the NFL level coming out of college. Even after winning the Heisman Trophy during his time at Louisville. There were questions about his passing accuracy and ability. Many called Jackson a “running back” during his rookie season. He was able to prove the doubters wrong as he showed he can throw and run at an elite level.
Jackson was able to bring the Ravens to the playoffs, but they lost to the Tennesee Titans in the Divisional round. Jackson put up over 500 all-purpose yards but struggled a bit with his passing, throwing two interceptions. He will look to repeat his success and hopefully take the Ravens all the way next year.
Even with the likes of Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Donald, it is clear that his peers think he is the best player in the league.
