The Atlanta Falcons have hired former Titans offensive coordinator as their next head coach. The team fired their previous coach, Dan Quinn, after an 0-5 start to the 2020 season.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news on Friday afternoon via Twitter.
Smith led the Titans to the AFC Championship game in 2019, thanks in large part to Derrick Henry. In 2020, he designed a running attack that allowed Henry to become the eighth player in NFL history to eclipse 2,000 yards in a single season.
He will not have a bell-cow back like Henry in Atlanta, but he has the opportunity to turn around the Falcons in the twilight of Matt Ryan’s career. There are currently no contract details available, but the team’s Twitter confirmed the hire.
