It seems as if Jay Ajayi will be returning to the team that made him a Super Bowl champion.
The Eagles held a workout for Ajayi on Friday morning. Reports point to Philadelphia being impressed enough to re-sign him. The last time he played in the NFL was in 2018 with the Eagles. He was previously dealt to Philly in a trade with Miami. That same year, they went on to win Super Bowl 52.
The NFL’s Ian Rapoport confirmed the two sides are in talks as of Friday afternoon.
The #Eagles intend to sign FA RB Jay Ajayi, source said. He worked out this morning and they are deep in talks. The top veteran still available, he’s healthy after an ACL tear and returns to the team that traded for him in 2017. Helps make up for the loss of Darren Sproles.

The Ajayi signing comes in the wake of the Eagles losing Darren Sproles for the rest of the season. He suffered a torn hip flexor that failed to heal after he returned to action against the Chicago Bears. This signing works in their favor, as long as Ajayi can also stay healthy.
He played in only four games last season, starting three. After being shut down due to injuries of his own, he was not resigned for the 2019 season. But, down to just Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders, the Eagles need a running back who knows the offense. Ajayi is just that back.
During his tenure in Philadelphia, he has played in 11 games, rushed for almost 600 yards and four touchdowns. He was a key component in the Eagles’ run to the Super Bowl. Although the details of the contract are not known, it seems as if he will get another chance with the team that won him a ring.
The Eagles continue their season in a rematch of that Super Bowl, against the Patriots on Sunday, November 17.
