Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James suffered a meniscus injury during practice on Sunday and will now miss significant time according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
#Chargers star safety Derwin James is likely to miss significant time with a meniscus injury he suffered during today’s practice, I’m told. James was expected to be a Defensive Player of the Year candidate and will now have to wait and see when he will be back on the field.

James, 24, missed 11 games last season with a stress fracture in his foot. The promising young safety was bound to be a key component of a stout defense this season.
In 21 games, James has 139 total tackles, three interceptions and 14 passes defended. As a rookie in 2018, James was an All-Pro and made the Pro Bowl.
The Chargers have Alohi Gilman and Nasir Adderley on the roster who could fill in, but both are unproven.
