DeAndre Baker, New York Giant cornerback, prosecuted with armed robbery charges in an incident three months ago.
Three months ago, on May 14, Baker and an accomplice robbed a house party in Flordia with semi-automatic weapons. The pair manage to steal $73,500 of money and valuables according to the Miami Herald. Baker was also seen threatening one of the victims, according to witnesses.
The next day, police issued a warrant for his arrest, along with Seattle Seahawk cornerback, Quinton Dunbar. Witnesses stated, that the accomplice, that was allegedly Dunbar, did not appear to armed.
On May 16, Baker and Dubar turned themselves over to the police.
“Knowing that you have admitted liars, there is no way to cut around it or change the story. They are, at best, admitted liars and convicted felons. You filed based on their word against a guy that has no criminal history, always gives back to his community,” Bakers lawyer Bradford Cohen told reporters for ESPN.
“It’s such bad judgment that you can’t even put yourself into their shoes to imagine what he was thinking to file this case,” Cohen added.
Baker has no criminal record, but two of his previous teams warned that Baker had “red flags”.
The Giants banned Baker from participating in any preseason activities.
Quinton Dunbar off the hook
Unlike Baker, the Seattle cornerback had no charges brought against him.
The Broward State Attorney, Mike Satz, failed to bring enough evidence to link Dunbar to the crime. Leaving Dunbar, a free man
“Quinton is gratified, he thanks God, he thanks his family, he thanks his defense team, and he thanks the Seahawks for sticking with him the whole time.” Dunbar’s attorney told ESPN.
Dunbar is not completely out of the woods yet, however. Dunbar, like Baker, still faces NFL penalties and is still on the exempt list. Fellow Seahawk, Jareen Reed, faced a six-game suspension 2017, despite dropped charges.
As for the Giants, they will face the Steelers without Baker, at MetLife Stadium on September 14.
The Seahawks open against the Atlanta Falcons on September 13.
