Washington Football Team defensive end Chase Young has suffered a season-ending injury. He tore his ACL in the second quarter Sunday’s contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Young will now begin rehabbing for the 2022 season.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
Washington coach Ron Rivera confirms that star DE Chase Young is out for the season with a torn ACL. A crushing blow to their defense.

Young was the second overall selection of the 2020 NFL Draft by Washington. He began his career in the uncertain pandemic-ravaged 2020 season, winning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and being selected to the Pro Bowl.
His 2021 season stats have not been nearly as flashy as his rookie campaign. Young had 7.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and a touchdown last season. Compare that to just 1.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in nine games this year. His downturn may also be a reason Washington’s defense is not nearly as good as was previously thought before the season began.
Despite his injury, the Football Team upset the defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers. Washington will play the Panthers in Week 11.
