The Las Vegas Raiders have talked to other teams about trading former first-round pick Clelin Ferrell. Here are five potential trade destinations for Clelin Ferrell.
1. Arizona Cardinals
Arizona is currently generating just 1.8 sacks per game, ranking them 24th in the NFL. After losing Chandler Jones in the offseason to free agency, they did not adequately replace him. The Cardinals have started off the season slowly and may want to address their need for a pass rusher by acquiring Ferrell.
Because he doesn’t have many sacks over the last two seasons, the Cardinals could get him very cheaply. He would have to play in their 3-4 defense, but it is a low risk-high reward trade for the Cardinals. If they get Ferrell and he can help them make the playoffs, it could really salvage the season.
2. Miami Dolphins
Miami has Melvin Ingram and Emmanuel Ogbah as their current defensive ends. They are helping the Dolphins get 2.0 sacks per game, but that number could be improved, as it ranks 21st in the league. If they make a move for a pass rusher it would greatly help their chances of making the playoffs.
The Dolphins sit at 3-3 in a tough AFC East division. They may not want to part with too much draft capital after forfeiting their first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft due to tampering, but they can get Ferrell relatively cheaply. With Ingram and Ogbah combining for just three sacks in the first six games, a move could be worth it.
3. Los Angeles Rams
The Rams average 2.0 sacks per game, which ranks 21st in the NFL. They lost Von Miller in free agency and the pass rush has suffered. While Leonard Floyd is a tad better, Justin Hollins is ranked among the worst edge rushers in the league by Pro Football Focus.
At 3-3, they may want to start being active on the trade market to increase the chances they repeat as Super Bowl Champions. Rams’ General Manager Les Snead has never been shy about making trades and giving up draft picks and he may need to do a few before the trade deadline this season.
4. Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals have a great defensive end in Trey Hendrickson. Sam Hubbard has also played well, but the sacks haven’t come to the defense as a whole. They rank near the bottom of the league at 1.5 sacks per game and could use some more players who can get pressure on the quarterback.
Cincinnati isn’t usually aggressive in the trade market, but a 3-3 start to the season may urge them to aid their team as they fight to win the AFC again. They can get Ferrell pretty cheaply and give him a chance to play more snaps. Even with two good defensive ends, the Bengals can move Hubbard inside on passing downs, something they have done plenty of in the past. A move isn’t absolutely needed, but any team with a Super Bowl window open should go all in to win.
5. Indianapolis Colts
Kwity Paye has been out for a few weeks with an ankle sprain, which has hurt the Colts’ pass rush. Yannick Ngakoue has 2.5 sacks this season. Overall, the Colts average 2.5 sacks per game on the season, ranking 11th in the NFL.
Getting another pass rusher isn’t a necessity for the Colts, but it would be nice as they try to make a push for the playoffs. This will allow them to rotate pass rushers in and out of the game and even move them around the formation. The Colts would likely part with a late round pick for Ferrell.
