The NFL schedule was just released last week, which has fans ready for an NFL season more than ever. Each season, there are games that stick out more than others. Here are the 5 best games of the 2020 NFL schedule.
5. San Francisco 49ers at Dallas Cowboys (Dec. 20)
This game has a lot of elements that will make it one of the most-watched games of the season. Both teams have rabid fan bases, have a lot of history and have a hatred for the other team. The game is also on December 20, which means that the playoffs could be on the line.
Not only is there a historical background to this game, but the styles of play will create an interesting matchup. Both teams will want to run the ball well, San Francisco with their stable of running backs and Dallas with Ezekiel Elliot. The game may come down to which quarterback can show up in the clutch between Jimmy Garoppolo and Dak Prescott.
4. Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Oct. 18)
With Tom Brady joining the Buccaneers and them having a lot of weapons, they should be one of the more exciting teams in the league this season. Fans have wanted an Aaron Rodgers vs. Tom Brady Super Bowl for a long time, but now that Brady is in the NFC, they’ll have to settle for regular-season matchups or possible postseason matchups before the big game.
This will be only the third meeting between Rodgers and Brady, which will pique the interest of all diehard football fans. This game is in the middle of the season, when both teams will likely be making their pushes for the playoffs. Last season, Matt Lafleur didn’t let Rodgers air it out a lot, but if Brady has the Bucs’ offense rolling, this could be a shootout.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints (Sep. 13)
Another great quarterback matchup is what makes this game worth circling the calendar for. Brady hasn’t played Drew Brees often, so when the two meet, it is must-watch television. These are two of the greatest quarterbacks of the generation, with Brady winning six Super Bowls and Brees putting up ridiculous numbers (and winning one Super Bowl). This could be the last season these two play, so both matchups are worth watching, but seeing Brady take the field early in the season in the Superdome will be great to see.
This game has the quarterback matchup everyone wants to see, but there are also playoff implications on the line, as the Bucs and Saints will be battling it out for the playoffs all season long. Both quarterbacks will want to extend their legacies and making the playoffs and advancing is the best way to do that. With the Falcons having defensive issues and the Panthers rebuilding, it should come down to the Bucs and Saints in the division.
2. Kansas City Chiefs at New Orleans Saints (Dec. 20)
The end of the season features many key games, but this intra-conference matchup will stand out. Patrick Mahomes is coming off of a Super Bowl with the Chiefs. Brees is still in search of Super Bowl number two. Both quarterbacks are great, with Mahomes lighting up the scoreboard and Brees playing very efficiently. Get ready for a shootout in New Orleans.
While these two teams won’t be competing for a playoff spot, both teams will likely be in position to secure better seeding for the playoffs with a win in this game. It could even result in a bye for them, which is very important. This game has two great teams, two great quarterbacks and will be fun to watch.
1. Kansas City Chiefs at Baltimore Ravens (Sep. 28)
Monday Night Football doesn’t usually have the marquee matchups that it once did. This game will be an exception. Lamar Jackson and the Ravens’ high-powered offense will be going head to head with Mahomes and his Super Bowl-winning team. This has all the makings of an instant classic that people will be talking about for years.
Like last year, these two teams will be fighting for playoff positioning. The winner may have the hand up on getting a bye, which will be huge for both teams. From any way that it can be looked at, the Ravens and Chiefs game will be the most hyped-up matchup of the season. Set the calendar for September 28 and relax because good football will be played.
