Patriots wide receiver Kendrick Bourne is reportedly on the trade block ahead of the post-Week 8 deadline. Bourne is being paid only $3.5 million for the remainder of the 2022-2023 season, which makes him an economical purchase for a team in need of an extra body at wide receiver.
Here are three possible trade destinations for Kendrick Bourne.
Las Vegas Raiders
With Hunter Renfrow’s issues staying healthy this year, the Raiders emerge as an attractive suitor for Bourne. As stated above, he’s very cheap, and head coach Josh McDaniels worked with him during his tenure as the Patriots’ offensive coordinator.
Davante Adams and Derek Carr have not had the connection that most thought they would immediately rekindle after Adams’ move to Las Vegas. Carr has struggled getting him the ball with regularity, but when he does, he can still show that he is one of the league’s best pass catchers. Having Bourne to take some of the cornerback and safety shading away from Adams could open up that connection a bit more.
Green Bay Packers
The Packers will be on most every trade destination list if the subject is a wide receiver. The receiving core for Green Bay is either old, injured, inexperienced, unreliable or some combination of those adjectives. Rodgers’ twilight years are upon him, and the team paid him handsomely to stay and attempt a run at another Super Bowl. They are not getting there with this wide receiver room.
Bourne is not anywhere near the flashy player that most fans want to see in Green Bay, but keep in mind that the team is cash strapped after paying Rodgers, Alexander and Smith in the offseason. Also, this front office hates surrendering draft picks. Bourne would likely not cost them anything higher than a fourth or fifth-rounder.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tom Brady loves a veteran receiver. Just ask the front office, who brought in an injured and past-prime Julio Jones to the team in the offseason. Bourne has only been in the league for six seasons, but that is enough for Brady to trust he can run his route tree.
Chris Godwin is seemingly still reeling from a serious injury, and multiple other Bucs are on the injury report, which has led the team to a 3-3 record. That is very inauspicious for what could be Brady’s last ride. Expect Tampa to look into him if Brady is interested in bolstering this receiving core.
