The Panthers are fielding trade calls for their best players after a 1-5 start to the 2022-2023 season. After firing both their head coach and their defensive coordinator, Carolina is reportedly ready to trade their former first-round draft pick, D.J. Moore.
A young receiver on a three-year deal should be a hot commodity and coveted by many teams on the brink of Super Bowl contention. Here are three possible trade destinations for D.J. Moore.
Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens are 3-3 ahead of Week 7, but could easily be 6-0. In 2022, they have given three games away after leading by 10 points in the second half. Some of these losses were due to poor defensive scheming and injuries, but a lack of offensive firepower has also contributed.
Baltimore traded away Marquise Brown on draft night, which led to Devin Duvernay and Rashod Bateman being the team’s primary receivers. Bateman has not been able to stay healthy and Duvernay has been inconsistent. This team needs a top-flight receiver to cement their offensive firepower and rocket Lamar Jackson toward his second MVP award. This is a no-risk move for the Ravens.
Green Bay Packers
The other most obvious choice for a trade destination is the Packers. They lost one of, if not the best receiver in the NFL when Davante Adams decided to take less money to play for his childhood favorite team and college quarterback. This move has not really worked out for either party, but this piece will focus on the Packers’ end.
Green Bay is 3-3 as well, and cannot get anything going offensively. Sure, Matt LaFleur refuses to run the football with one of the best running back tandems in the league, but the receiving core has been severely lacking. Rookies Romeo Doubz and Christian Watson are going through growing pains, and Watson has been banged up. Allen Lazard is too slow to be a WR1, and Randall Cobb and Sammy Watkins are both injured.
The team just paid Rodgers handsomely to stay for his twilight years to give him another run at a Super Bowl. If they do not get him a speedy wide receiver with some experience to rely on, then they may as well have put that money down the garbage disposal, because this offense is stagnant at best. There is no reason to not make this move, and the front office will lose a massive amount of support and good will if they don’t go out and get Moore (or maybe another receiver, but Moore provides the most upside).
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams will almost always show up in pieces and lists like this one. They have no regard for their future draft picks and will spend whatever they need to to win while their window is open. Having won last year’s Super Bowl using this philosophy, they might just trade away another draft to go back-to-back.
Allen Robinson has not lived up to the hype that was generated when the Rams signed him in the offseason. The team has not signed Odell Beckham, Jr., who has all but said that they had their chance to bring him back and missed it. Van Jefferson is on the injured reserve list. Cooper Kupp is still playing well, but opposing defenses all but know the ball is going to him when they drop back to pass. Moore may seem like a luxury to this team, but they need to get something going if they are going to repeat.
