The 2020 offseason is already off to hot start for the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have already hired their new head coach who had time to start settling into his role. There are also trade rumors surrounding one of the Eagles two major players in Carson Wentz and Zach Ertz. Things are only going to get more interesting in Philadelphia with the amount of free agents that the Eagles could have an opportunity to take if they play their cards right. These are the three free agents that the Eagles should take in 2021.
Eagles picking up wide receiver Allen Robinson in 2021
It seems like Allen Robinson is probably not going to suit up for the Chicago Bears next season as he trying his hand in the free agent market. Robinson has already had an incredible career as a wide receiver. He has had three 1,000 yard receiving seasons with two being with the Bears and one being with the Jaguars. The Eagles need more depth at the receiving position. The receiving core definitely had their struggles during the 2021 season. Picking up Robinson would be a major move for the Eagles and it would certainly help whoever is going to be quarterback for the Eagles at the start of the 2021 season. Robinson would be that reliable target the Eagles can go to if they need a big play to spark their offense. Robinson can also give the Eagles opportunities in the red-zone with his 6-foot-3 frame. He also has the ability to make spectacular catches. Robinson is one of the biggest names in free agency and it will be expensive to acquire his services, but perhaps the Eagles can make it happen.
Eagles grabbing center Corey Linsley from free agency
According to NBC Sports Philadelphia, Eagles center Jason Kelce said that retirement has been on his mind. It could be time to start looking for a replacement for Kelce, and Corey Linsley could be that perfect replacement. The Eagles need their offensive line to make blocks and form a running lane, and to protect the quarterback. Linsley can do just that for their offensive line. The Eagles gave up a total of 65 sacks in the 2020 season. This statistic needs to improve if they want any shot of having a winning season in 2021. As said earlier, Linsley can also make blocks and improve run lanes for the Eagles running backs. This will help Miles Sanders and company gain more yardage and get in the endzone more. Jason Kelce has not announced his retirement yet, but it gives the Eagles something to think about during the off season.
Eagles signing quarterback Jacoby Brissett in 2021
Jacoby Brissett was behind Phillip Rivers, who had an amazing 2020 season, as the Colts made a playoff run. If the Eagles decide not to trade for a quarterback or draft one, then Brissett could be a good fit for the Eagles. Brissett has had experience as a starting quarterback in the past and has done quite well. He started most of the 2017 season where he totaled 3,098 passing yards and 13 touchdowns in 16 games. He did have seven interceptions, but that was the first time he had a chance to lead a team and he still did quite well at it. In his other run as starter for the Colts, he played 11 games and threw for 2,942 yards while compiling 18 touchdowns. He threw only six interceptions in that 2019 campaign.
Brissett has proven that he is able to sling the ball and win games during the season. The only thing the Eagles may have to be weary with is injuries with him. He suffered some setbacks with injuries over the years. The Eagles may need a guy with more experience as an NFL quarterback rather than going with Hurts or a rookie out of the draft.
There are some great options in free agency this year. It will be fun to see who the Eagles pick up in the 2021 offseason. These are the three free agents the Eagles should take in 2021.
