The 2022 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Travon Walker 2022 NFL Draft Profile.
Travon Walker Background
Position:Â Defensive Line
Size:Â 6-foot-5, 275 pounds
Class:Â Junior
2021 stats:Â 33 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, 2 passes defended, 1 fumble recovery
Walker was a part of a great Georgia defensive line in 2021. Now he is one of the better defensive line prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft.
He was a highly-touted recruit out of Georgia and decided to stay in-state to play for the Bulldogs. Walker made the Freshman All-SEC Team with 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. The Bulldogs went 12-2 that season with a win in the Sugar Bowl. Walker returned in 2020 and had two tackles for loss and a sack in seven games. The Bulldogs went 8-2 and won the Peach Bowl following the 2020 season. Walker took a step forward in 2021 with 7.5 tackles for loss and six sacks. His play helped Georgia win the National Championship.
Following the National Championship season, Walker declared for the draft. He is currently projected to be a first or second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Travon Walker Strengths
Walker has a solid frame for an NFL defensive lineman. He will need to add to it, specifically to get strength, but his 6-foot-5 frame is a good start. To go with his height, he also has tremendous length, which gives him an advantage, specifically on the interior.
His run defense is really good, whether he is playing on the edge or on the interior. Walker sheds decently quickly and then is able to locate the football. He shows solid pursuit and then to finish off the play, he shows good tackling ability. Walker has good gap integrity and can control his gap in run defense.
He has very powerful hands. Walker can put a jolt into an opposing offensive lineman. His hands along with his long arms allow him to shed blocks quickly. Walker also has solid hand placement and timing, as he is technically refined in this area.
Travon Walker Weaknesses
While he is versatile, Walker could be somewhat of a “tweener” at the next level. Some will have him down as an edge rusher, while others will have him as an interior defensive lineman. He may be too big to be a traditional edge rusher, but isn’t quite the ideal size to be a 3-4 defensive end or 4-3 defensive tackle.
His best fit is probably as a 3-4 defensive end. He has shown run-stopping ability and can take on blocks, but to be truly effective, he will need to muscle mass to his frame. At just 275 pounds, he could lose a lot of battles, so he will need to add a few pounds to withstand the power at the position.
Currently, Walker is a much better run defender than pass rusher. He doesn’t have a quick first step and doesn’t bend well. On top of that, he doesn’t have the best pass-rushing moves. Walker’s run-stopping ability will get him on the field, but to progress in the league, he will need to get after the quarterback more.
Projected Draft Range:Â First Round Pick-Second Round Pick
