The 2023 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the O’Cyrus Torrence 2023 NFL Draft Profile.
O’Cyrus Torrence Background
Position: Offensive Guard/Center
School: Florida
Size: 6-foot-5, 337 pounds
Class: Senior
2022 stats: First Team All-American
Torrence found success at both Louisiana and Florida during his college career. Now he is in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Out of high school, Torrence was a three-star recruit who decided to stay in-state to play for Louisiana. He started as a true freshman for the Ragin’ Cajuns and helped the team to an 11-3 record. In 2020, Torrence was named Second Team All-Sun Belt for his play. Louisiana won 10 of their 11 games during the 2020 season. For the 2021 season, Torrence was named First Team All-Sun Belt. The Ragin’ Cajuns went 13-1 with help from Torrence. Before the 2022 season, Torrence decided to transfer to Florida. He was named a First Team All-American for his play, as he helped the Gators win six games.
Following the one season at Florida, Torrence declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He is a projected first-round pick.
O’Cyrus Torrence Strengths
Torrence’s size and the strength that comes from it are his biggest strengths. He stands 6-foot-5 and 337 pounds, which is great for an interior lineman. His length also looks to be more than adequate for the interior. With his size comes great power and it will be hard for opponents to disengage or outmuscle him. He can anchor well as a pass blocker.
His run blocking is great, with a lot of credit for that going to his power. Torrence can move people off the line of scrimmage, which opens up space for his running back to run. While he can struggle to get to the second level, when he does he can really control his matchup and open up space. Teams can run right behind Torrence often at the NFL level.
He has great awareness for the position as well. Torrence shows a good recognition of how to pick up twists and stunts. He also knows how to pick up and pass off pressure to make sure the quarterback is protected. On top of that, when he doesn’t have anyone to block, he looks for work to help out his teammates.
O’Cyrus Torrence Weaknesses
Torrence isn’t the most athletically gifted offensive lineman in the class. He lacks flexibility and doesn’t move the quickest. This limits his ability to stay in front of pass rushers. He also can be late getting to the second level as a run blocker and also could be unsuccessful pulling at the next level. Torrence is best used in a phone booth.
While he can handle power pass rushers, quicker pass rushers could give him trouble at the next level. His pass protection was solid at the collegiate level, but with the athletes being improved at the next level, Torrence could struggle to stay in front and defenses can take advantage of that.
Currently, Torrence doesn’t use his length to its fullest potential. He lets defenders get in close and then overpowers them. He could try striking them with his hands and extending to take more control. Torrence can be successful doing what he is doing, but can be better if he utilizes his length.
