While the 2021 NFL Draft is still far off in the distance, players that will be drafted early are on the field now. Each week presents unique matchups for draft prospects and this week is no different. Here are NFL Draft prospects to watch in college football week 8.
1. Tanner Morgan, QB, Minnesota Golden Gophers
The Big Ten is back this week, which means there will be even more prospects to watch. Minnesota has high expectations heading into the season after playing well last year. They have a few high-quality prospects, including quarterback Tanner Morgan, who will be worth watching against Michigan in their first game.
Morgan passed for 3,253 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions on 66 percent completion in 2019. This week, he will have all eyes on him as the Golden Gophers play Michigan in prime time. A good game could help him out, as other quarterbacks have played well in the first seven weeks of the college football season.
2. Chuba Hubbard, RB, Oklahoma State Cowboys
Although he could’ve gone pro last season, Hubbard decided to return for another season of college football. He has helped Oklahoma State go 3-0 so far this season and the team looks like they are the frontrunners in the Big 12. He’ll need to have a big game this week against Iowa State otherwise the Cowboys could be in trouble.
So far this season, Hubbard has 69 carries for 339 yards and four touchdowns. He has good contact balance and runs hard, making him a desirable candidate to be selected early in the 2021 NFL Draft. With some good games down the stretch, Hubbard could be selected before the second day of the 2021 NFL Draft is over.
3. Wyatt Davis, OG/OC, Ohio State Buckeyes
Ohio State starts the season out against Nebraska. They have plenty of talented players, including quarterback Justin Fields and cornerback Shaun Wade. The Buckeyes also have a good offensive line that features Wyatt Davis.
In the opening game, the Buckeyes play Nebraska. Early in the season, they are going to want to have the offensive line playing well. Davis is a good interior lineman and with a good season could be the first one drafted this year.
4. Chazz Surratt, LB, North Carolina Tar Heels
North Carolina has had a solid season, but fell to Florida State last week. They will want to get back on track this week against NC State. For North Carolina to win, linebacker Chazz Surratt will have to play really well, which is something he is accustomed to doing.
Surratt is a former quarterback that mad the transition to linebacker last season and registered 115 tackles. He has played well this season as well with 24 total tackles. A good game against NC State will help UNC and his draft stock. He is currently projected to be a day two pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
5. Asante Samuel Jr., CB, Florida State Seminoles
It has been a rough season for Florida State, but they are coming off of their upset win over North Carolina. This week they play against Louisville. With an under .500 record, Florida State needs another win and Asante Samuel Jr. can help them get it.
This season, Samuel has three interceptions and five passes defended. There have been a lot of corners playing well this season and Samuel needs to continue his good play to help his stock. He is currently projected to be selected before day two of the NFL Draft is over.
