The bowl season gives fans and scouts alike a chance to analyze NFL Draft prospects against solid competition. Bowl scheduling allows all eyes to be on each game. Here are the NFL Draft prospects in the 2023 National Championship Game.
TCU Horned Frogs Draft Prospects
Quentin Johnston, WR
Johnston has played at TCU for three seasons and improved each year. He has 114 catches for 2,187 yards and 14 touchdowns in his career. This season, Johnston has registered 59 catches for 1,066 yards and six touchdowns in 13 games.
He stands at 6-foot-4 and 193 pounds, which makes him a mismatch for opposing corners. To go with his size, Johnston has solid speed, which helps him create big plays. He won’t be the quickest or most agile player in the NFL, but he has the tools to be a good receiver.
Projected Draft Range: First Round Pick
Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, CB
Hodges-Tomlinson followed in his Uncle Ladanian Tomlinson’s shoes by joining TCU, where he has been for four seasons. He has 120 total tackles, five interceptions and 35 passes defended in his career. This season, he has registered 45 total tackles, three interceptions on 14 passes defended.
At 5-foot-9 and 177 pounds, Tomlinson is below the average size for an NFL cornerback. His size means that he will likely need to move to the slot, but he has been successful there. Hodges-Tomlinson has shown good ball skills in his career.
Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick
Other Draft Prospects: CB Josh Newton (3-5), CB Noah Daniels (4-6), OG/C Steve Avila (5-7), RB Kendre Miller (5-7), LB Dee Winters (5-7), QB Max Duggan (6-UFA), DL Dylan Horton (6-UFA), OG/C Alan Ali (UFA), OG/C John Lanz (UFA)
Georgia Bulldogs Draft Prospects
Jalen Carter, DL
Carter has been a Bulldog for three seasons and has really been disruptive for them over the last two seasons. He has 81 total tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss and six sacks in his career. For the 2022 season, Carter tallied 30 total tackles, seven tackles for loss and three sacks.
At 6-foot-3 and 310 pounds, Carter will look right in place along an NFL defensive line. He has great athleticism for his size and can mess up entire plays, even if he isn’t the one making the tackle. While he doesn’t have the greatest sack production, the tape shows just how talented of a player he is for the Bulldogs.
Projected Draft Range: Top 10 Pick
Kelee Ringo, CB
Ringo has been with Georgia for three seasons and been an impact player for the last two. He has 75 total tackles, four interceptions and 15 passes defended in his career. This season, Ringo has 41 total tackles, two interceptions and seven passes defended.
He stands at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, which gives him good height for an NFL cornerback. Ringo has been a shutdown corner this season, displaying his solid athleticism. He needs to continue to work on his technique to improve.
Projected Draft Range: First Round Pick
*EDGE Nolan Smith is out for this game with a pectoral injury. He is a projected day-two pick.
Other Draft Prospects: OT Broderick Jones (1-2), S Chris Smith (2-3), TE Darnell Washington (2-3), S Tykee Smith (3-5), OG/C Sedrick Van Pran (3-5), OT Warren McClendon (4-6), RB Kenny McIntosh (5-7), QB Stetson Bennett (6-UFA), TE Arik Gilbert (6-UFA), EDGE Robert Beal (UFA), WR Kearis Jackson (UFA), LB MJ Sherman (UFA), RB Kendall Milton (UFA)
