The 2022 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Kerby Joseph 2022 NFL Draft Profile.
Kerby Joseph Background
Position:Â Safety
Size:Â 6-foot-1, 203 pounds
Class:Â Senior
2021 stats:Â 57 total tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack, 5 interceptions, 2 passes defended, 2 fumble recoveries
Joseph is a former receiver who has developed into a good safety at Illinois. He is now entering the 2022 NFL Draft.
As a three-star prospect out of Florida, Joseph signed with Illinois. He moved to safety as a freshman, registering 10 total tackles. His play improved when he was a sophomore and he made 30 tackles and had three passes defended. As a junior, Joseph made 19 tackles. He took over a full-time starting spot in the 2021 season and did well. He tallied 57 tackles, five interceptions and two passes defended. Illinois struggled despite Joseph’s good play, finishing the 2021 season with a 5-7 record.
Following a good 2021 season for Joseph, he has been preparing for the 2022 NFL Draft. He is projected to be a mid-round pick.
Kerby Joseph Strengths
Joseph has solid size for an NFL safety. He is 6-foot-1 and 203 pounds, which gives him decent play strength. To go with his size, Joseph also has 33-inch arms, which is good for the position. He can defend more passes because of his size and length.
It is easy to tell he played receiver in high school because Joseph has good ball skills. He tracks the ball well in the air, then has the athleticism to go make the play. When he is in range, he usually comes down with an interception, but also can bat the ball down.
He is a solid athlete with good body control. Joseph has decent quickness and has solid long speed. He will be able to match up with receivers or tight ends purely on a movement level. His athleticism helps him make plays on the ball and cover well.
Kerby Joseph Weaknesses
Joseph lacks experience as a safety after starting for just one season for the Fighting Illini. Because of his lack of playing time, he is slow to pick up on things and doesn’t have the best anticipation. With more reps, he should be able to improve in this area.
He is not the greatest tackler and is more of a fit to play deep. Joseph needs to wrap up and show better form tackling. There are times when big plays happen because Joseph takes a bad angle to the ball or misses the tackle. More playing time may help with this as well.
His run defense will need some work. Joseph is late to diagnose where plays are going. After he finds the ball, he doesn’t always take the best angle to the ball. His lack of being able to shed blocks and his tackling issues show up here as well.
Projected Draft Range:Â Third Round Pick-Fifth Round Pick
