The 2023 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Bryan Bresee 2023 NFL Draft Profile.
Bryan Bresee Background
Position: Defensive Line
School: Clemson
Size: 6-foot-5, 305 pounds
Class: Redshirt Sophomore
2022 stats: 15 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 2 passes defended
Bresee overcame a lot during his three years at Clemson, but still showed his skill. He is now in the 2023 NFL Draft.
As an elite recruit in the class of 2020, Bresee decided to sign with Clemson out of Maryland. In his freshman season, he had 23 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. The Tigers went 10-2, losing in the College Football Playoff semifinal to Ohio State. In 2021, Bresee only played in four games due to injury, but registered 13 total tackles, three tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He returned to play in 10 games during the 2022 season, totaling 15 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. Clemson went 11-3 on the season with Bresee’s help.
Following the season, Bresee decided to declare for the 2023 NFL Draft. He is a projected first or second-round pick.
Bryan Bresee Strengths
Bresee has pretty good measurables for the interior defensive line. He is 6-foot-5 and 305 pounds, which is more than enough for the position. His frame provides him with good play strength for the position, which he uses to push the pocket as a pass rusher. He also has good length as well.
He shows good athleticism for the position. Bresee gets a good jump at the snap of the ball, showing his quickness. His quickness and speed are good both in a straight line and laterally. He has decent bend as well. His athleticism allows him to win on the interior against less gifted athletes.
Right now, Bresee is more advanced as a run defender than a pass rusher. He shows good gap integrity and sheds blocks well. Bresee can also take on double teams to free up other player to make tackles. His ability to attack gaps can disrupt plays. He needs to work on finishing plays and not letting players elude him, but he can still make an impact against the run.
Bryan Bresee Weaknesses
Bresee has had a few injuries derail his progression at the college level. He tore his ACL in 2021 and only played in four games that season. In 2022 he had shoulder surgery, which only allowed him to play in 10 games. The injuries really made it tough for him to develop after a good freshman season.
He can finish plays much better against both the rush and the pass. There are plenty of times when Bresee is within range to make the play, but fails to make the tackle or sack. His pursuit could be better to assist this, but Bresee mainly needs to finish plays with better tackling.
His pass-rushing could have more nuance. His pass rushes don’t have much variance to them. He needs to add more moves and also have a better pass-rush plan. This can help one of the biggest question marks that he currently has, which is the lack of sack production.
Projected Draft Range: First Round Pick-Second Round Pick
Draft Grade: First-Round Pick
