The 2022 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Abraham Lucas 2022 NFL Draft Profile.
Abraham Lucas Background
Position:Â Offensive Tackle
Size:Â 6-foot-6, 315 pounds
Class:Â Redshirt Senior
2021 stats:Â First Team All-Pac-12
Lucas was able to put a lot of pass blocking on display during his college career at Washington State. He is now headed to the next level.
As a three-star prospect, Lucas decided to stay in-state and play for the Washington State Cougars. He redshirted in his first year on campus, then became a Freshman All-American in the next season. His play helped Washington State go 11-2 and win the Alamo Bowl. Lucas was All-Pac-12 Second Team in 2019 as Washington State went 6-7. He once again made the All-Pac-12 Second team in 2020 with the Cougars only playing four games due to COVID. In 2021, he was an All-Pac-12 First Team selection and Washington State went 7-6.
After getting plenty of experience at the collegiate level, Lucas is ready for the pros. He is currently projected to be a mid-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Abraham Lucas Strengths
Lucas has good size for an NFL offensive tackle. He stands at 6-foot-6 and 315, which gives him a decently filled-out frame. To go with his good size, Lucas has solid 33 and 7/8-inch arms, which will help him neutralize defenders.
His pass protection is what will allure teams. He was able to get plenty of pass blocking reps in Washington State’s scheme. Lucas demonstrated the ability to mirror pass rushers and can block on the edge with his length helping him out. His strength allows him to shut down a lot of pass rushers.
He has good patience and trusts his technique, which is a good asset. Lucas can land strikes with good timing and doesn’t lunge or get off balance. His ability to stay patient allows defenders to come to him and his strength and timing at that point help him win.
Abraham Lucas Weaknesses
Lucas isn’t the greatest run blocker. He can struggle to block on the move, whether that’s on the perimeter or when he is getting to the second level. His natural leverage isn’t there and he isn’t flexible enough to consistently move to win his matchups.
As mentioned, his pad level gets too high and he can lose some of his power because of it. Lucas needs to keep his pad level low to keep his leverage. If he can’t maintain leverage, he will end up losing a lot of matchups in the NFL.
He was penalized too much in college. Lucas was penalized for a lot of false starts. NFL offensive line coaches won’t like dead-ball flags being called against them, so Lucas will have to earn trust. If a coach keeps him off the field it could hurt his development.
Projected Draft Range:Â Third Round Pick-Fifth Round Pick
