The 2022 NBA Draft will be an important event for teams to build for their future. Here is the Ochai Agbaji 2022 NBA Draft Profile.
Ochai Agbaji Background
Position:Â Guard/Forward
Size:Â 6-foot-6, 217 pounds
Class:Â Senior
School:Â Kansas
2021-22 stats:Â 18.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.6 blocks, 47.5% FG, 40.7% 3FG, 74.3% FT
Agbaji stayed at Kansas for four years and it ended up paying off. Now that he has played four years of college basketball, he is preparing for the pro level.
He was a four-star high-school prospect, who chose to play at Kansas. Agbaji was originally going to redshirt as a freshman, but then stepped into the starting lineup. He averaged 8.5 points per game. As a sophomore, he started and upped his scoring to 10 points per game. Agbaji once again showed improvement as a junior, when he scored 14.1 points per game. He returned for his senior season and averaged 18.8 points per game. His play helped lead Kansas to a National Championship.
Following a collegiate career that saw him continue to develop, Agbaji is in the 2022 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a mid-first-round pick.
Ochai Agbaji Strengths
Agbaji worked hard to improve his 3-point shooting in his career. He improved every season and shot 40.7 percent from deep. Whether he shoots off the catch or off of the dribble, Agbaji can really stretch the floor with his shooting. He also frequently was able to pull up in transition and knock down shots when the lane wasn’t open.
He is a solid athlete, which helps him on both the offensive and defensive end. Agbaji was on the receiving end of a lot of alley-oops, as he showed a quick first step and ability to throw it down. His defense is also solid, as he is able to stay in front of his man.
His role in the NBA will likely be a “3 and D” player, as he showed the ability to guard some good players at Kansas. He was able to switch and guard multiple positions on the perimeter. He doesn’t force turnovers or blocks, but is a solid straight-up defender.
Ochai Agbaji Weaknesses
Agbaji is not a player who will create for himself or others very well. He averaged just 1.6 assists per game last season at Kansas. Agbaji doesn’t regularly get to the paint off the dribble, which limits how much he can create his own shot or one for others. He does more of his work in transition, catch-and-shoot 3-pointers and on cuts to the basket.
His free-throw shooting has been below par during his time at Kansas. He shot below 70 percent for his career. While he did improve to 74.3 percent as a senior, he really needs to continue to upgrade this area of his game to stay on the floor late in games.
He should not be trusted to handle the ball a lot at the next level. Agbaji had a negative assist to turnover ratio as a senior. He plays better basketball when he can run off screens. Agbaji will be more of a wing player than a ball-handler at the next level.
Projected Draft Range:Â Mid-First-Round Pick
