Brooklyn Nets’ guard Kyrie Irving has requested a trade from the franchise according to Shams Charania. If a trade is not reached, Irving will leave in free agency.
Irving, 30, is a seven-time All-Star and one-time NBA champion with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He has played 12 NBA seasons with the Cavaliers, Nets and Boston Celtics. This season, Irving has averaged 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game. For his career, he has averages of 23.3 points and 5.7 assists per game.
The trade request comes after the two sides were unable to agree to a long-term extension.
Brooklyn currently sits in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings with a 31-20 record.
The NBA trade deadline is Thursday, February 9.
