Ahead of the actual opening of the NBA Free Agency window (Thursday, 6:00PM ET), a move has already been made by the New York Knicks. Former Dallas Maverick Jalen Brunson intends to sign a four-year, $110 million deal with New York. Reports state that the Mavericks never had a chance to make an offer to Brunson.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the news via Twitter on Thursday afternoon.

During his four years at Villanova, Jalen Brunson won two NCAA titles, one in 2016 and one in 2018. He received multiple accolades during the 2018 season, including National College Player of the Year. Despite those numerous awards, he was chosen in the second round of the NBA Draft by the Mavericks.
Luka Doncic and Brunson led the Mavs to a Western Conference Finals appearance during the 2021-2022 season. That season he averaged 16.3 points, 4.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game. He did this while playing the most minutes of his career and starting the most games he had ever been given a chance to start. It is unclear at this point whether the leaking of his intent to sign before the window opens will be considered tampering.
