The 2022 NBA Draft will be an important event for teams to build for their future. Here is the Chet Holmgren 2022 NBA Draft Profile.
Chet Holmgren Background
Position:Â Forward
Size:Â 7-foot, 195 pounds
School:Â Gonzaga
Class:Â Freshman
2021-22 stats:Â 14.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 3.7 blocks, 0.8 steals per game, 60.7 %FG, 39% 3P%, 71.7 FT%
In just one season at Gonzaga, Holmgren showed why some have called him a unicorn of a player. Following his one year at Gonzaga, he declared for the 2022 NBA Draft.
As the top player in the class, Holmgren had offers from all over the country. He chose to go to Gonzaga. His play helped the Bulldogs get a no. 1 seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, but they lost in the Sweet 16. Holmgren finished the season averaging 14.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 3.7 blocks per game.
His one season at Gonzaga helped him assert himself as one of the best players in the 2022 NBA Draft class. He is currently projected to be a top-five pick.
Chet Holmgren Strengths
Holmgren is an elite shot blocker. He has good length and uses it to protect the rim better than anyone else in the class. His timing is great and he gives enough space to opponents so they can’t overpower him. He has good recognition and can come block shots when helping from the backside of the play.
Even with his teammate Drew Timme manning the center spot, Holmgren showed his rebounding ability by bringing down 9.9 per game. He boxes out consistently and he shows good recognition of where the ball will come off the rim. His height allows him to go up and get the ball at its highest point.
His shooting ability is also impressive for a player of his size. He shot 39 percent from deep at Gonzaga and his range should extend to the NBA 3-point line. Holmgren is best in catch-and-shoot situations. He can be a real threat at the NBA level with his ability to pick and pop.
Chet Holmgren Weaknesses
Holmgren has a good frame, but needs to add to it. Being a 7-footer that weighs under 200 pounds means that he can be overpowered. In the NBA, there will be guards who weigh more than him. If he can add strength, he could be more effective in the post.
There are times when Holmgren shies away from contact. That can be when he is getting to the basket, rebounding or setting screens. He needs to be more assertive and play through contact. Added strength will help, but he also needs to change the way he approaches contact.
While he is a good ball-handler, Holmgren will need to be cognizant of his turnovers if he is asked to handle the ball a lot at the next level. He has a 1:1 assist-to-turnover ratio, which is solid for a big, but Holmgren has the skills of a much smaller player and will need to boost assists and limit turnovers.
Projected Draft Range:Â Top-Five Pick
