The Los Angeles Lakers are trying to turn around their season after a rough start. Here is a look at the Lakers’ upcoming schedule.
The Lakers have two games left in a four-game home stand. These last two games will feature matchups against the Detroit Pistons and the San Antonio Spurs. Their first game back on the road will be against the Phoenix Suns.
Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons will visit the Lakers on Friday, November 18. While the Pistons only have one more win than the Lakers, they are currently ranked fifth in the eastern conference. While the Lakers are 14th in the western conference.Â
In years prior, the Pistons would seem like an easy opponent for the Lakers. This year however seems a little different. They have a young core that features Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey and Isaiah Stewart as well as veteran Bojan Bogdanovic.
Cunningham will likely miss the matchup against the Lakers due to left shin soreness. But, the Lakers still have to account for Bogdanovic, who is having a great season. After signing a two-year extension with the Pistons this offseason, he has put up career numbers. He is averaging 20.3 points, 3.4 rebounds in 31.1 points per game.
San Antonio Spurs
The Lakers will round out their home stand on Sunday against the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs are tenth in the western conference, with a 6-7 record.
After trading away star player Dejounte Murray this off-season, it seemed likely the Spurs would have a rough season. Instead, they have been able to lean on their young group much as the Pistons have done.Â
Keldon Johnson has taken on a huge portion of the load by playing 34 minutes and averaging 23.6 points per game.
The Spurs are dealing with quite a few injuries, which could work in favor of the Lakers. Zach Collins, Romeo Langford and Blake Wesley are all currently listed as out.
Phoenix Suns
The Lakers and the Suns will meet for the first time this season on November 22. Anytime these two division rivals meet, it has playoff implications.
The Suns are currently fourth in the western conference with an 8-4 record. Although they have been off to a good start, they have not played their best basketball. Devin Booker is averaging 26.7 points, with 5.6 assists in 36.4 minutes. Chris Paul has been dealing with injuries since the beginning of the season. He is currently listed as questionable for Monday’s game against the Miami Heat.
