Here are three things to watch for this week as the Yankees host the Baltimore Orioles and the Seattle Mariners.
A Potential Sweep
The Yankees are currently just 2.5 games out of a Wild Card spot. They will start their week with a three game set against the Orioles, who are currently in last place in the American League East. This is a big opportunity for the Yankees to not only win the series, but sweep it. A solid start this week will be a big bonus before the Mariners come to the Bronx over the weekend.
Huge Four Game Set
The Yankees are a game ahead of the Mariners heading into this week. This weekend’s four game series could give the Yankees some breathing room from Seattle. Both teams added players at the trade deadline. The Mariners built on each part of their roster, adding a starter in Tyler Anderson, two relievers in Diego Castillo and Joe Smith along with the bat of Abraham Toro. This will be a test for New York, but can really help them down the stretch.
Anthony Rizzo
Anthony Rizzo has an RBI in each of his first three games as a Yankee, along with two homers and five runs scored. He is already producing offense out of the first base spot, which was iffy throughout the year. Between Luke Voit’s injuries and Jay Bruce not working out earlier in the season, Rizzo was a valuable addition to this Yankees team. It’ll be interesting to see if he can keep it going in his first games in those Yankee pinstripes.
