Texas Rangers manager Chris Woodward has been fired. In three years as Rangers manager, he collected a record of 203-278 and failed to place any higher than third in the AL West, and never managed to take the team to the playoffs.
ESPN’s Jon Heyman tweeted about the news on Monday afternoon.
Woodward began his MLB career as a player in 1999. He played for the Blue Jays, Mets, Braves, Mariners, and Red Sox before retiring in 2011. Then, he served as a coach for the Mariners and Dodgers from 2014-2018 before being hired as the Rangers’ manager.
In 2019, his first year as manager, he led Texas to a record of 78-84, which was good enough for third in the division. He never eclipsed that placement, as the Rangers finished last in the AL West in 2020 and 2021 under Woodward. There is yet no word on who will be the Rangers’ interim manager.
