Every week MLB teams will be ranked for the rest of the season. Here are the 2022 MLB power rankings May 30.
1. Los Angeles Dodgers
Record: 33-14
Previous Ranking: N/A
The Dodgers were a very popular pick to win the World Series in the offseason. They currently lead the MLB in runs scored, by a wide margin, and lead the MLB in the lowest runs allowed. They have been the best team in baseball as of late.
2. New York Yankees
Record: 33-15
Previous Ranking: N/A
The Yankees are led by an MVP front runner, Aaron Judge, and a CY Young front runner, Nestor Cortes. They are facing a bit of issues with injuries as of late but they have as much talent as any team in the league. They are definitely a team to watch as World Series favorites.
3. Houston Astros
Record: 31-18
Previous Ranking: N/A
It seems like the Astros have been amongst baseballs best teams for so long, no matter which players leave or which players they add. The Astros just know how to win and the 2022 season has proved this.
4. San Diego Padres
Record: 30-18
Previous Ranking: N/A
The fact that the Padres have compiled a top 5 record in the MLB through 40+ games without their generational talent, Fernando Tatis Jr., is quite impressive. Manny Machado has thrust himself right in the middle of the NL MVP conversation.
5. New York Mets
Record: 32-17
Previous Ranking: N/A
The Mets eagerly await the return of the best pitcher in baseball, Jacob DeGrom, as they continue to sustain a healthy lead in the NL East. Adding DeGrom back could very well take this team over the top, giving them the best starting pitcher combo in the league in DeGrom and Max Scherzer.
6. Milwaukee Brewers
Record: 31-18
Previous Ranking: N/A
The injury bug is the summary of the Brewers’ season as of late with multiple starting pitchers hitting the IL recently. They are led by their pitching and with these injuries, it leaves a bit of a question mark for their near future.
7. Toronto Blue Jays
Record: 27-20
Previous Ranking: N/A
The Blue Jays have four legit stars in their lineup, all of which have been playing a bit worse than expected. If these hitters, George Springer, Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Matt Chapman, and Bo Bichette can catch fire, the Blue Jays will be a top 5 team in the league.
8. St Louis Cardinals
Record: 27-21
Previous Ranking: N/A
There might not be a hotter hitter on the planet than the Cardinals’ Paul Goldschmidt. He has been incredible so far this season, along with their ace, Miles Mikolas.
9. Minnesota Twins
Record: 29-20
Previous Ranking: N/A
Rookie reliever Jhoan Duran has been lights out this season. He has some of the best stuff amongst all rookie pitchers in the entire league. They need Byron Buxton to stay healthy to reach their full potential.
10. Los Angeles Angels
Record: 27-22
Previous Ranking: N/A
The Angels are anchored by two former MVPs, Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. Both of these players could very easily go on a stretch which could tab them as the best player in baseball.
11. Tampa Bay Rays
Record: 28-19
Previous Ranking: N/A
The Rays are plagued by playing in the best division in baseball. They have a top 10 record in the league but could finish third or even fourth in their own division if they don’t play great baseball. They have tremendous talent and could also make a push in the other direction, chasing the Yankees for the AL East title.
12. San Francisco Giants
Record: 25-21
Previous Ranking: N/A
The Giants have taken a bit of a step back compared to their incredible season last year. They are playing in one of the better divisions in the league which is led by two top ranked teams in the Padres and Dodgers.
13. Chicago White Sox
Record: 23-23
Previous Ranking: N/A
The three-headed monster of Dylan Cease, Michael Kopech, and Lucas Giolito has been rather dominant this year. With all three of these starters showcasing CY Young caliber outings, the White Sox will be a very dangerous team through the dog days of the season.
14. Boston Red Sox
Record: 23-25
Previous Ranking: N/A
The Red Sox are one of the hottest teams in the league. Even with a below .500 record, they are still a threat to make a push past the Rays, Blue Jays, and Yankees.
15. Philadelphia Phillies
Record: 21-27
Previous Ranking: N/A
The Phillies compiled one of the more intriguing offenses during the offseason, adding Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos to a lineup that already featured many elite bats. The best hitter being Bryce Harper, who is off to an incredible start this season.
16. Atlanta Braves
Record: 23-25
Previous Ranking: N/A
The defending World Series champions have been a bit underwhelming this season. They will need their lineup to turn it around in order to make a playoff push in the last 100+ games.
17. Arizona Diamondbacks
Record: 23-26
Previous Ranking: N/A
Many expected the Diamondbacks to be a bottom of the league team this year. It is quite a surprise that they have been able to jump out to a near .500 start.
18. Texas Rangers
Record: 22-24
Previous Ranking: N/A
Marcus Semien has compiled 175 at-bats and has just 1 home run. While the offense has been subpar, Martin Perez has been the lone bright spot for the team, supporting a sub 1.000 WHIP thus far.
19. Cleveland Guardians
Record: 19-24
Previous Ranking: N/A
Shane Bieber and Tristan McKenzie have paced their pitching staff while Jose Ramirez has been incredible at the plate. The Guardians are one of those teams that are stuck in the middle of the pack.
20. Miami Marlins
Record: 19-27
Previous Ranking: N/A
The Marlins are a very young team comprised of young and exciting players. They have two pitchers, Sandy Alcantara and Pablo Lopez who have ERAs around 2.00. Their offense is paced by the exciting infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr.
21. Colorado Rockies
Record: 22-26
Previous Ranking: N/A
CJ Cron has been the only bright spot for the Rockies. Their pitching staff has been average at best but Cron has been a terror for opposing pitching.
22. Seattle Mariners
Record: 20-28
Previous Ranking: N/A
The offseason acquisitions of Jesse Winker and Eugenio Suarez have proved a bit underwhelming with those two hitting .216 and .211 respectively. Ty France has been a bright spot(.341/.413/.511 slash line).
23. Chicago Cubs
Record: 19-28
Previous Ranking: N/A
The Cubs entered one of the more obvious rebuilds that the MLB has seen in recent history. Patrick Wisdom is also showing that his power numbers are not a fluke, as he has belted over 10 home runs already this year.
24. Pittsburgh Pirates
Record: 19-27
Previous Ranking: N/A
During the lockout, many saw the Pirates as the worst team in the league. At this point in the season, they aren’t even the worst team in their own division. Good start for the Pirates.
25. Oakland Athletics
Record: 20-31
Previous Ranking: N/A
The Athletics have four qualified hitters in their lineup and their highest batting average among those four is .236. Yikes.
26. Baltimore Orioles
Record: 20-29
Previous Ranking: N/A
The debut of MLB’s top prospect, Adley Rutschman, should be the first step to a new age of baseball for the Orioles. At least the Orioles fans can hope. Things have been pretty downhill for the last few years in Baltimore.
27. Washington Nationals
Record: 18-31
Previous Ranking: N/A
There have been few bright spots for the Nationals this season. They entered rebuild mode when they traded Trea Turner and Max Scherzer last season and it shows. But, at least they have the 23-year-old phenom, Juan Soto. So the future isn’t all too bad.
28. Detroit Tigers
Record: 18-29
Previous Ranking: N/A
The Tigers have scored an MLB low in runs so far. And it is by a pretty wide margin. With only 2 qualified hitters hitting over .200(Miguel Cabrera and Robbie Grossman), the season is looking rather bleak in the Motor City.
29. Kansas City Royals
Record: 16-30
Previous Ranking: N/A
Brady Singer has been very impressive as of late, after a stint in the minors and an experiment in the bullpen. Top prospect Bobby Witt Jr. is a name to watch through the rest of the season.
30. Cincinnati Reds
Record: 16-31
Previous Ranking: N/A
The Cincinnati Reds are attempting to recover from a horrendous 3-22 start to the season. They have battled their way back to playing .600 level baseball since then. But, their starting outfielder, Tommy Pham was just suspended for 3 games because he slapped an opponent over a fantasy football dispute. Only the Reds.
