The newest entry into Magic’s Universes Beyond series looks to add some time traveling into it’s repertoire. Magic: The Gathering is teaming up with BBC’s Doctor Who to create four new commander decks for players to enjoy a unique multiplayer experience. The MTG x Doctor Who collab features five Doctors from the shows history and highlights each of their stories in the form of Magic cards. The Doctors are divided through three decks, with the fourth and final deck featuring the most heinous villains from the show.
Players received their first look at the newest Commander cards during the Preview Panel at Magic Con Barcelona. The Preview Panel broke down some of the thought process that went behind creating cards that can match the iconic personalities of the Doctors.
Unfortunately for those who weren’t there in person, the panel was not streamed but live-tweeted (live xeeted?) from the official Magic: The Gathering Twitter account.
The Doctors
Here we are – the main attraction! Players were excited to see how each Doctor would play as they enter the realm of Magic: The Gathering, and now fans can finally start brewing their lists as the face cards were previewed this Friday morning.
First to be revealed, was The Fourth Doctor from the pre-con “Blast From the Past”.
The Fourth Doctor pilots a deck filled with Historic synergies. As players create food tokens, there will surely be a payoff for having a board filled with artifacts and legendary permanents.

Right behind him comes The Tenth Doctor, sporting a time-centric Commander pre-con.
The Tenth Doctor features a interesting new look at how suspend cards can be utilized in a game of Commander.
The last previewed Doctor was The Thirteenth Doctor and the “Paradox Power” deck.
The Thirteenth Doctor wants players to get creative in how they cast their spells. When they do, they get rewarded by buffing up their own creatures and gaining the chance to do some whacky stuff on opponents turns.
The Companions
Doctors never work alone, and it would be a disservice to Doctor Who fans if the Companions did not get their own powerful cards. Each Companion is strong on their own right, but when paired with their Doctor, the two are a force to be reckoned with.
The Villains
Last but certainly not least we have the baddies. The villains of Doctor Who are just as memorable and fascinating as the protagonists themselves, and they are returning to the world of Magic to continue their reign of chaos.
As is tradition, the villains in this deck make each opponent face a terrible choice. Take a glance at one of the most nefarious characters, now highlighted with their own fiendish Commander card.
In this malicious team-up, Davros is joined by other villains from Doctor Who’s history like the ever-dangerous Missy
Other Spoilers from the Preview Panel
Of course through the panel other cards were revealed to give more insight into how each deck wants to play. Each deck looks to have story spotlights of their own, focusing on the face-card for each deck.
