One of the top LCS Academy Mid Laners, Haeri, has had his contract extended until the end of 2024 according to the Global Contract Database. This comes after much discussion surrounding players from Team Liquid Academy in the past few weeks. Many have been asking, where would all of the Team Liquid Academy squad end up? This may be at least a partial answer to this question. Here is the latest on Team Liquid Haeri and his contract extension.

Team Liquid Academy had arguably the greatest year any Academy squad ever has. They won both Proving Grounds Tournaments while still showing off the young talent they had invested into. This would be considered a major win both in developing NA talent and doing so in a quick enough fashion to overtake many other promising young teams.
Haeri was someone that was a bit underrated coming into the season as many did not expect him to make this big of a leap. He cemented himself as one of the top two mid lane prospects for the LCS and now looks to be getting rewarded for those efforts.
This two-year contract extension signals a few different possibilities.
The first is that Team Liquid are deciding to bring him up. There have been other rumors and leaks that Team Liquid were strongly looking at their Academy roster for replacements. This comes after a year where Team Liquid failed to win the LCS and did not make Worlds.
The second is that they are extending him in anticipation of increasing his buyout. When players are sold, generally their contracts go with them. With money already agreed upon, Team Liquid could be trying to drive up his price for the teams that are already in contact with them for a potential acquisition. Of all the scenarios, this is the least likely.
The last one is that they plan on keeping him in Academy as a backup for whatever other plan they have in the mid lane for 2023. This would mean they didn’t want to sell him and he didn’t want to sign elsewhere. Or, that teams decided they were not interested in his services.
Taking into consideration the extension of Yeon just a few weeks ago, it seems as though Team Liquid are buying in on their young resident players. This means that their squad will likely be much cheaper but still full of potential.
