League of Legends is a game that has consistently changed over the years — for better, and for worse. The gameplay is affected directly by the miniscule updates, which over time become massive.
One player, who has played the game over the past couple years, noticed two big flaws plaguing the game: burst damage, and a surplus of ability haste.
Burst Damage and Ability haste are ruining the game
“You die in 0.5s if you get hit by anything post min 25 and the fight is over for your team,” the vocal LoL fan expressed.
“There is a way deeper problem than the damage itself: Haste (old CDR) has no limit anymore and almost every item in the game has it,” they continued.

“Back in the day, even if Jarvan IV was strong or in the meta in that moment, if he missed an EQ, he had to back off for quite a while before having an engage opportunity again. Now he can literally gap close with EQ, R you and then EQ in the ult again or use it to get out.”
This sentiment is definitely true. Whether the developers intended on such a long term shift over time is unclear, but League of Legends Ability Haste has definitely become far more rampant than in the past.
Champions have access to their abilities far more often, and burst damage creates circumstances where ADCs are 100 to 0 in a matter of less than a second.
The ADC role is arguably the most directly impacted by these changes, since they’re the squishiest role, alongside the most focused in team fights.
This then begs the question, are these really flaws in the game? Or are they intended game design mechanics?
Are these really flaws?
The vast access to ability haste and burst damage aren’t completely un-counterable. By learning the different spells and playstyles of various champions, players can learn to counter them by positioning properly.
This then results in metas where champions with safety prosper, such as Ezreal and Kai’Sa.
But the issue with this is that it takes dozens, if not hundreds, of matches to understand the meta and champions to such a degree. This makes the barrier of entry for newer players quite high.
Even for veteran players who have played the game on and off for years, the meta and various play styles become increasingly harder to keep up with.
Consider the brand new champion: Briar. This champion can burst down her enemy from literally halfway across the map. Chances are, the majority of the player base has no idea what her abilities actually do, more more how to counter the new pick.
And the game is only becoming bigger and bigger, with more and more champions to keep track of.
This is great for players consistently playing the game, since it adds more new elements to the experience. This thereby prevents the game from feeling too stale over time.
But the issue is, as mentioned before, for more casual players alongside newcomers, League of Legends is becoming difficult to pick up.
