After rumors for years, it looks as though 100 Thieves time in the League of Legends scene will most likely be coming to a close. The recent press release discussing the new combined League of Legends Championship of The Americas gave an explanation for all of the teams being added and had a brief but impactful one for 100 Thieves.

100 Thieves League of Legends
100 Thieves joined the LCS as a partner team all the way back in 2018 when the first partnered teams were added. They had an all-star filled roster and made their way all the way to the Finals only to lose to Team Liquid.
This would not be their only time making it to LCS finals as they would win their first and only LCS championship in 2021 with a roster of Ssumday, Closer, Abbedagge, FBI and huhi along with legendary coach Reapered leading the way.
They would continue to compete over the past few years and even made it to Worlds 2024 but would ultimately lose with a good young team to PSG Talon.
Unfortunately, the end of the road for 100 Thieves and their time in League has an end.
League of Legends Championship of The Americas
For the 2025 season the LCS is dissolving and combining to become the League of Legends Championship of The Americas. In the press release we were told that 100 Thieves have
“100 Thieves has decided to sell its franchise slot back to Riot Games due to
business reasons, and Riot has made the decision to buy back the slot and work on
a transition plan as we launch the LTA. For Season 2025, 100 Thieves will compete
with full access to LTA and international tournaments, but will not be eligible for the
Promotion Tournament at the end of 2025. We will review our plans for the
Provisional Guest Team slot throughout 2025.”
While this is not necessarily the end, it all but seems as though Riot Games will be looking for someone else to take the spot but could not find anyone to do so in 2025.
There is a chance the 100 Thieves brand is big enough that Riot Games decides to keep them in it somehow. But the fact that they are not able to compete internationally no matter how well they play certainly makes it seem as though they are only in the LTA temporarily.
If not, hopefully 100 Thieves fans can enjoy one more ride in League of Legends as the historic franchise closes its doors on a memorable chapter.
