After so many leaks, rumors and a lot of frustration, the Nintendo Switch 2 was finally revealed on January 16, 2025. It was a simple trailer but it did give us a decent bit to work with in terms of even confirming some of the leaks. With that, we were given a date, so here is a look at the potential Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date.
Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date
The Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date is confirmed to be in 2025 and after April 2, 2025.
This may not seem like much but it really does give us a minimum of eight months to guess when this new system could come out. To get the best idea, we need to take a look at the past.
Up until the Wii, many of the Nintendo systems were released sometime in the summer, generally in June. Then as they realized they could dominate the market during the holiday season things changed. There were the occasional releases in September as well such as with the Gamecube. But in general, it feels like things have shifted to focus on the holiday season.
Why the Switch 2 Could Break that Cycle
With this official reveal we do know that we will be getting a lot more information from Nintendo in April. That feels like an eternity away but there will be a lot more speculated, leaked and likely even some game reveals from companies like Pokemon. Then in April we will likely get the full release date.

In truth, we expect the reveal date to be sometime in June. This is a time where the game industry does a lot of their releases. Why? Because of the fact that most kids are just getting out of school and have their entire summer break to play video games.
Sure there is the chance that they wait to release sometime in October or November for the holidays but it also feels like the fan base may riot if they have to wait that much longer.
To be clear, this is just speculation, gut feeling and a little research but we really do believe that June 2025 would make a lot of sense based on previous releases, this trailer being about six months ahead of time, mass production of products already started and the Nintendo Direct being in early April.
