Team Samurai crosses over with The King of Fighters XV, featuring characters from SNK’s Samurai Showdown. Haohmaru, Nakoruru, and Darli, from the Samurai Shodown, appear as Team Samurai, the final team for season one of KOFXV.
Samurai Shodown, also known as Samurai Spirits in Japan is another SNK fighting game series from the 90s. It also has releases alongside The King of Fighters franchise. The last release for Samurai Shodown was in 2019.
Team Samurai Members
Haohmaru, originating in the original Samurai Shodown is the series, main protagonist. He’s been in multiple crossovers such as Capcom Vs SNK, and SNK vs Capcom: Match of the Millenium. Haohmaru has also been a DLC guest character in Soulcalibur VI. However, The King of Fighters XV will be his first mainline debut in the series.
Nakoruru is also from the original Samurai Shodown, who appears in every title alongside Haohmaru. While also appearing in cameos and crossovers like Capcom Vs SNK, KOFXV won’t be her first time in the series. Nakoruru was in the base roster for The King of Fighters XIV. A part of the Another World Team, a team of guest characters from other SNK properties.
Darli Dagger is the third member of Team Samurai making her initial debut in Samurai Shodown (2019). She is the newest character out of the three and must’ve been a popular character to make an appearance in KOF XV.
The King of Fighters XV will mark a reunion of all major SNK fighters since Capcom Vs SNK 2. KOF itself serves as a crossover series between Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, and original King of Fighters characters.
Release Date
Team Samurai does not have an official release date, but SNK estimates to release them in the Autumn of 2022. Individually, team Awakened Orochi will be $15.99 and $29.99 if they purchase the team pass.
Finally, SNK plans to continue supporting The King of Fighters XV with a new season for 2023. The confirmation of characters Shingo Yabuki and Kim Kaphwan as the first two characters was also during the panel. Both characters are returning characters, Kim specifically being a mainstay who was mysteriously missing from the base roster. Both characters seem to be individuals instead of part of a team.
