The NFL season is full of surprises, which makes it hard to pick winners. Cecil Walker and Joe DiTullio, of The Third and the Don Football Show, will do their best to try to predict the winners for every NFL game this season. Here are the NFL Divisional round picks.
Sunday: Los Angeles Rams at New Orleans Saints
Joe- The Rams had a dominant performance against the Dallas Cowboys. They didn’t win by a wide margin, but they controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Los Angeles will be able to do the same against the Saints. Gurley will run the ball well and Goff won’t be pressured. Aaron Donald and the rest of the Rams’ defense will shut down the run. Drew Brees will put up points, but it won’t be enough considering the Saints could only muster 20 points against the Eagles.- Rams
Cecil- Things were not looking good for the Saints when the Eagles went up 14-0 last week, but the Saints kept their composure and were in control the rest of game. These teams both have a wealth of talent on both sides of the ball, but the X factor here will be Drew Brees playing in front of a home crowd that wants nothing more than to see him clinch a Super Bowl appearance one more time. The Saints will need to figure out a way to limit Aaron Donald, which will probably be accomplished by play action and quick passes. If they can do that, the Saints defense should be able to do just enough to give Brees the chance to win the game in the final few possessions.-Saints
New England Patriots at Kansas City Chiefs
Joe- What a dominant performance the Patriots had against the Chargers. Why were the Chargers playing with three safeties in for the first half? Who knows. Now the Patriots seem like they have reached their potential for the season. The problem is that they are 3-5 away from Foxborough. Kansas City’s defense is stepping up, their offense is unbelievable and the fans will be going crazy. It will be close, but the Chiefs will squeak away with the victory and make the Super Bowl- Chiefs
Cecil- I want to say I don’t know what got into the Patriots last week, but we all do. The Patriots played disciplined football and eliminate the mistakes that cost many teams games. Couple that with Bill Belichick’s ability to gameplan against anyone (or the Chargers inability to gameplan) and Brady’s will to win and this team is hard to beat. The Patriots do not have the advantage of playing at home or the Charger’s terrible defensive play calling in this one. They have to go up against a Chiefs team that shows no signs of slowing down. The Patriots will try to limit them, but the Chiefs have too many weapons. This could easily be a shootout, but with the ARTIC BLAST and THE SUPER BLOOD WOLF MOON (google it) anything could happen. -Chiefs
