Fangio was the defensive coordinator from 2015 to 2019 and was credited with helping turn the Bears’ defense into one of the best in the league. They were the best in points allowed per game at 17.4 this season.
Before being the defensive coordinator for the Bears, Fangio was the defensive coordinator for the 49ers, Texans, Colts and Panthers, along with other stops in between, in his long coaching career.
He will take over for Vance Joseph, who was fired after going 11-21 in two seasons in Denver.
Fangio will take over a defense that ranked 12th in the league in points per game allowed at 21.8 and an offense that scores 20.6 points per game, ranking 24th. Former head coach Gary Kubiak has been brought back to the team to help run the offense.
Denver finished 6-10 in 2018 and failed to make the playoffs.
