The 2021-22 NFL season has already been extremely entertaining. It has shown fantasy trends that have started to develop and show what could happen the rest of the season. Already some players have proven to be fantasy relevant while some fantasy stars have been alarmingly disappointing to this point. Injuries have started to mount up this season. It is always a great idea to evaluate backup options so that way fantasy managers are prepared if star players miss time. Here are the Week 3 fantasy football quarterback rankings.
*Ratings are subject to change due to injury reports or possible move to reserve/COVID-19 list*
(Check out the section below for details on players already rumored to possibly miss this week and how their replacement options rank for the week)
Key:
Must Start- a player who should definitely be in your lineup that week because of the combination of matchup and talent. They will likely finish near the top of the league in points that week and could repeat the production most weeks.
Starter- a player who makes fantasy owners comfortable starting week after week. Regardless of the matchup, this player has a high floor.
Low-End Starter- a player who should be started in most lineups but can possibly bottom out and finish below average on a given week. A high ceiling play in two-quarterback or superflex leagues.
Streamer- a player who could be a perfect replacement for a starter for a week or two. Starting this player may not win you your lineup but they will make sure that your production out of that position will not lose you your matchup either. Also a viable option in two-quarterback or superflex leagues.
Deep League Streamer- a player who could fill a void at a position in a deeper league. Their ceiling may be close to average point production at the position but their floor is enough to get through the week. A reasonable player to have in your lineup in two-quarterback or superflex leagues.
Leave on the Bench- a player who should be avoided in all lineups that week. Many times this player could even be left on waivers.

Possible Changes that can occur before Sunday
QB4 Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
New came out Thursday that Lamar Jackson has been dealing with a hip issue and illness. Both of those held Jackson out of practice Thursday. The illness is expected to pass but the hip issue may hold him out for the week. If Jackson misses this game Tyler Huntley would be the QB28 between Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett.
QB13 Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders
After the Las Vegas Raiders defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers news came out that Derek Carr had been dealing with an ankle issue. Head coach Jon Gruden said after the injury that he is considered questionable, but expects him to play. Yesterday Gruden said that Carr would be “ready to go” and will play this weekend. However, if something happens and Carr doesn’t play the Raiders would rely on Nathan Peterman to start for them against the Miami Dolphins. If Peterman were to play he would slot in at QB32 between Zach Wilson and Taysom Hill.
QB20 Carson Wentz, Indianapolis Colts
Last week against the Los Angeles Rams Carson Wentz didn’t sprain one, but both of his ankles. On Tuesday Wentz was seen in a walking boot and his status for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans. He still feels that he has a chance to play. If Wentz misses this game Jacob Eason would start. In a great matchup against the Titans. It has also been reported that practice squad quarterback Brett Hundley took a majority of the starter reps on Wednesday. They may split the snaps Sunday. Eason and Hundley would then be QB32 and QB33 between Zach Wilson and Tayson Hill.
QB22 Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers
News broke yesterday that Ben Roethlisberger had been dealing with a pectoral injury that puts his status for Sunday in question. This was supposed to be a good matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals who have a weak secondary. If Roethlisberger was to miss Sunday’s game Mason Rudolph would likely be the starter. Rudolph would be the QB30 between Mac Jones and Davis Mills.
QB23 Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns
It was scary last week when Baker Mayfield went to tackle a Texans player on an interception and he came up with a limp arm. Mayfield’s injury was to his shoulder. He was able to come back for the rest of the game but Cleveland had Mayfield get an MRI after the game. He will likely play but will probably take it easy in practice this week. If he was to miss time Case Keenum would be the QB27 between Jameis Winston and Jimmy Garappolo.
