The 2022-23 NFL season began last week which means so did fantasy football. After getting a taste of the NFL season last week, it is important not to overreact and make some risky moves when setting lineups for this week. For the first few weeks, fantasy managers should pay attention to trends that they see from teams that could shape the rest of the season. Here are fantasy football week 2 wide receiver rankings.
*Ratings are subject to change due to injury reports or possible move to reserve/COVID-19 list*
(Check out the section below for details on players already rumored to possibly miss this week and how their replacement options rank for the week)
Key:
Must Start- a player who is in your lineup regardless of the matchup or most circumstances. They will likely finish near the top of the league in points that week and in most weeks.
Starting WR1- a player who makes fantasy owners comfortable starting week after week. Regardless of the matchup, this player has a high floor.
High WR2- a player who may isn’t likely to carry a lineup that week, but has the ability to have a breakout game and is teetering between WR1 and WR2 category.
Starting WR2- a player who should be started in most lineups and should reach their point projection. This player is started is because of their consistency and moderately high floor
Low WR2- a player who may not be a lock to start for a team every week, but will start more times than not. Their production may not be pretty or win a person their lineup but the production is consistent enough to make a fantasy owner comfortable starting them.
Flex- a player who could float around the territory of being benched, but is started due to the potential to play better than their point projection. However, this player has the potential to flop and causes a fantasy team to lose if he has a bad game.
Deeper League Flex- a player who has starting value in deeper leagues. There are enough reasons to leave this player on the bench, but their upside makes them an attractive option. Desperate times may call for a player like this to be inserted into starting lineups.
Upside Player- a player who is boom or bust. This player can exceed expectations in a given week or could flop and be the reason why someone lost their fantasy matchup.
Leave on the Bench- a player who should be avoided in all lineups that week. Many times this player could even be left on waivers.

Possible Changes that can occur before Sunday
WR12 Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals
Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins suffered a concussion in Cincinnati’s first game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Higgins was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday. However, if Higgins was to miss this week against the Dallas Cowboys Ja’Marr Chase would retain his WR4 ranking and Tyler Boyd would move up to WR39 between Allen Robinson and Adam Thielen.
WR27 Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Chris Godwin suffered a hamstring injury directly resulting from his torn ACL recovery during Sunday night’s against the Dallas Cowboys. If Godwin is inactive then Mike Evans retains his WR13 ranking, Julio Jones moves up to WR30 between Darnell Mooney and Rashod Bateman, and Russell Gage moves up to WR55 between Brandon Aiyuk and Tyler Lockett.
WR38 Allen Lazard, Green Bay Packers
Allen Lazard missed the first game of the year for an ankle injury. It is a great sign for Green Bay that Lazard returned to practice Wednesday. However if he was to miss Sunday Night’s game against the Chicago Bears then Romeo Doubs would move up to WR47 between DeVonta Smith and Elijah Moore, Christian Watson would move up to WR52 between Jarvis Landry and Garrett Wilson. Both Randall Cobb and Sammy Watkins would retain their current rankings.
WR44 Ronald Moore, Arizona Cardinals
Cardinals wide receiver Rondale Moore missed last week’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs with a hamstring injury. Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Moore is “day-to-day at this point”. There is a chance that Moore is healthy to play this week against the Las Vegas Raiders. If he cannot play this week then Greg Dortch would join the list as WR61 between Corey Davis and Tyler Boyd. A.J. Green would move up to WR75 between Nelson Agholor and Kyle Phillips.
WR63 Michael Gallup, Dallas Cowboys
Dallas’ game against Cincinnati this week was the projected return date for Michael Gallup from his ACL tear. It isn’t certain that Gallup does return this week. If he doesn’t play this week then Noah Brown would likely be Dallas’ number two receiver slotting in at WR75 between Kyle Phillips and Nelson Agholor. After Jalen Tolbert was shockingly inactive last week it is hard to trust another receiver for the Cowboys especially since Cooper Rush is getting the start.
WR68 Van Jefferson, Los Angeles Rams
Van Jefferson missed last week’s game with a knee issue. There is a chance he is also inactive for Los Angeles’ Week 2 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. If Jefferson misses this week’s game then Ben Skowronek would join the list at WR76 between A.J. Brown and Noah Brown.
WR78 Wan’Dale Robinson, New York Giants
Wan’Dale Robinson suffered a knee injury in New York’s first game of the season. He missed practice Wednesday which is not a good sign for his status against the Carolina Panthers. If Robinson misses this week’s game expected Kadarius Toney to see more time in three receiver sets.
WR85 Alec Pierce, Indianapolis Colts
Alec Pierce is in the NFL’s concussion protocol. He could be in danger of missing this week’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. If Pierce is inactive for Indianapolis’ game this week then Ashton Dulin and Mike Strachan would be the third and fourth receiver on the Colts’ depth chart behind Michael Pittman Jr. and Parris Campbell.
