The 2024-25 NFL season has begun which means fantasy football is back! The first week has shown us already that there could be some major differences in the fantasy landscape from last year to this year. But it’s important not to overreact to what happened in the first week of the season because there’s a lot of season left to be played.
Since every week is important it would be irresponsible to start a player with a rough matchup over a player with a more favorable one that is ranked or projected to perform similarly. Here are fantasy football Week 2 tight end rankings.
[Ratings are subject to change due to injury reports or possible move to Injured Reserve List]
[Check out the section below for details on players already rumored to possibly miss this week and how their replacement options rank for the week]
Key:
Must Start- a player who is in your lineup regardless of the matchup or most circumstances. They Will likely finish near the top of the league in points that week and in most weeks.
Starting TE1- a player who makes fantasy owners comfortable starting week after week. Regardless of the matchup, this player has a solid floor.
TD Dependent Starter- a player who may not be a lock to start for a team every week, but will start more times than not because of depth at the position. Their production is based on whether they can get in the end zone or not. It can be the difference between a top 10 performance or a top 25 performance
Deep League Starter- a player whose ceiling isn’t high but should put up enough production to be started in deep leagues. When a player like this is started it is because their production though it will likely be low, will be better than a few options.
Leave on the Bench- a player who should be avoided in all lineups that week. Many times this player could even be left on waivers.

Players that could miss this week’s game
TE10 Jake Ferguson, Dallas Cowboys
Jake Ferguson suffered an MCL sprain in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns. He missed practice Thursday because of the injury. He has not been ruled out yet but seems unlikely to play. If Ferguson misses Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints Luke Schoonmaker becomes the TE29 between Jonnu Smith and Mike Gesicki.
TE14 Dalton Schultz, Houston Texans
Dalton Schultz suffered an ankle sprain last week against the Houston Texans. He missed practice on both Wednesday and Thursday because of the injury. If Schultz misses Week 2 against the Chicago Bears Brevin Jordan becomes the TE34 between Greg Dulcich and Kylen Granson.
TE36 Foster Moreau, New Orleans Saints
Foster Moreau was a full participant in practice on Thursday after being limited by concussion symptoms earlier this week. It seems unlikely that Moreau would miss this week’s game. If Moreau misses Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys Juwan Johnson and Taysom Hill become less risky starting options at the tight end position.
Players that are currently not expected to play
David Njoku, Cleveland Browns
David Njoku suffered an ankle injury last week against the Dallas Cowboys. He has been ruled out for this week’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jordan Akins will start at tight end for Cleveland while Njoku is out. He will have a role for the Browns offense until Njoku returns.
