Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are fantasy football players to add week 9. (Note: These are best used for standard scoring leagues. All players are rostered in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. Tyrone Tracy, RB, New York Giants
Even though Devin Singletary returned, Tyrone Tracy got a decent amount of the work in week 7. Tracy only carried the ball six times and had three receptions in the entire game. He totaled 23 rushing yards and nine receiving yards against the Eagles.
While Singletary did play, Tracy played more snaps. He earned more work when Singletary was out and looks like he will be the lead back moving forward. Tracy should at least be added and can be played when the matchup is favorable. At the time of this writing, the Giants haven’t played their game this week, so watch Monday Night Football to see how the usage shakes out. He is rostered in just 46.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Cedric Tillman, WR, Cleveland Browns
Tillman was on this list last week and then continued to produce. Without Amari Cooper in Cleveland anymore, the Browns are looking for a new go-to receiver and Tillman could be that. In week 8 with Jameis Winston at quarterback Tillman was targeted nine times. He registered seven catches for 99 yards and two touchdowns.
While the Browns still have Jerry Jeudy and Elijah Moore, it looks like Tillman has good chemistry with Jameis Winston. He could break out in his second season in the league with more time. Currently he is rostered in 16 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Isaac Guerendo, RB, San Francisco 49ers
Guerendo had to fill in at running back again in week 8. Christian McCaffrey is out and Jordan Mason has left the last two games with a shoulder injury. In week 8, Guerendo took over a lot of snaps and made the most of it. He finished with 85 rushing yards, 17 receiving yards on three catches and a touchdown.
The downside of adding Guerendo is that San Francisco is heading into their bye. McCaffrey and Mason should be able to heal more, even if they aren’t 100 percent out of the bye. Guerendo has done well with his opportunity and may have earned more runway in the future. He is rostered in just 3.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Josh Downs, WR, Indianapolis Colts
Downs has had an up-and-down season thus far, booming in some weeks and busting in others. This week was encouraging because he played well with Anthony Richardson, who returned from injury last week. In week 8, he had four receptions for 109 yards and one touchdown.
Despite missing two weeks of the season with an injury and having quarterbacks changing, Downs is ranked as the 32nd wide receiver in standard scoring leagues. The Colts have seemingly a different receiver step up every week, but if Downs can build a rapport with Richardson, the sky is the limit. He is rostered in 48.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Jalen Tolbert, WR, Dallas Cowboys
Tolbert is on this list again for his role in the offense. He is the second wide receiver while Brandin Cooks is out with an injury. There will be plenty of opportunity for him, even if he doesn’t have a great gam every week. In week 8, he had three catches for 44 yards.
While this week wasn’t the best for Tolbert, Cooks figures to be out for at least a little while longer. As Dak Prescott gets more comfortable with Tolbert, his production could increase. He has two double-digit games in standard scoring leagues since week 3 and could replicate that in the next few weeks. Tolbert can be added and played in desperation or based on the matchup. He is rostered in just 27.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
