Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are fantasy football players to add week 7. (Note: These are best used for standard scoring leagues. All players are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. Gus Edwards, RB, Baltimore Ravens
Edwards has not played since tearing his ACL last season. He is now practicing and should return soon to the Ravens’ offense. John Harbaugh has said that he is really close to being able to suit up.
In week 8, J.K. Dobbins was limited with a knee injury. The Ravens’ offense is capable of supporting more than one running back, so Edwards is rosterable even when Dobbins heals up. If Dobbins goes down, he could be startable in the future. Edwards is currently rostered in 5.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Kenyan Drake, RB, Baltimore Ravens
With Dobbins being limited in week 6, Drake had an opportunity to perform. He had a fantastic game against the Giants finishing with 10 carries for 119 yards and one touchdown. Drake also has one reception for eight yards.
Dobbins could miss some time or be limited in the future and Drake has earned more work in the future. Whether that holds long-term with Edwards rejoining the fold is up for debate. He can be rostered and held until more clarity comes out of Baltimore’s backfield. Drake is rostered in just 3.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Alec Pierce, WR, Indianapolis Colts
Pierce is a rookie who has gradually been more involved in the offense. Over the last three weeks, he has over 80 receiving yards in two weeks and then had a touchdown in last week. He finished week 6 with three catches for 49 yards and a touchdown.
The Colts have needed a number two receiver to emerge this season behind Michael Pittman and Pierce has grown into that role. His numbers warrant him being picked up. He can be played with the right matchup. Pierce is rostered in just 25.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons have focused their offense on the running game and Allgeier has taken advantage. He had 15 carries for 51 yards against the 49ers in week 6. While it wasn’t the most productive game, he is slated to continue to get work.
With Cordarrelle Patterson still on IR for a few more weeks, Allgeier has some more opportunity to produce. He should be rostered and held for the time being. Allgeier is rostered in 37.7 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Mike Boone, RB, Denver Broncos
Boone still has to play in Monday Night Football and have those stats come in, but he did play well in week 5. In the Broncos’ game against the Colts, he rushed seven times for 38 yards and caught three passes for 47 yards.
With Javonte Williams out for the season, Boone has an increased role in the offense. He will split time with Melvin Gordon in the backfield. It is hard to put him in any lineup, but he should be rostered. Boone is rostered in 34.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
