Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are fantasy football players to add week 3. (Note: These are best used for standard scoring leagues. All players are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. Darrel Williams, RB, Arizona Cardinals
James Conner injured his ankle in week 2 and did not return to the game. He is now day to day. Williams had 10 touches in Conner’s absence for 62 total yards and a touchdown. He figures to be the go-to running back if Conner misses time.
It is worth reading the injury report before starting Williams, but he should be picked up before Eno Benjamin, who got some work as well, but played less snaps. If Conner is able to go, Williams will still get work. Williams is rostered in just 3.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Noah Brown, WR, Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys will be without Michael Gallup for a little while longer. Even in the absence of starting quarterback Dak Prescott, Noah Brown has played well. He had five receptions for 68 yards in week 1 and topped that with five receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown in week 2.
With Cooper Rush at quarterback for the next few weeks, it may not be worth starting Brown, but he is definitely worth rostering for the next few weeks. He may be a player that can be traded when his value is high before Gallup returns. Brown is available in 99 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Jordan Mason, RB, San Franisco 49ers
It looked like Mason may be the player who could step in and help the 49ers with the loss of Elijah Mitchell. Most of the work went to Jeffrey Wilson and Ty Davis-Price in week 2. Now Ty Davis-Price is out for a few weeks with an ankle injury.
The injuries in the backfield have opened up an opportunity for Mason. Wilson is still the lead back for the time being, but Mason figures to get some work moving forward. As with all 49ers running backs, fantasy managers need to be careful about starting them, but Mason should be added. He is rostered in just two percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Devin Duvernay, RB, Baltimore Ravens
Through two weeks of the NFL season, Duvernay ranks as the 11th-ranked receiver. He had two touchdown catches in week 1 and had a return touchdown in week 2. Duvernay has established himself as a big play receiver.
It is still early in the season, but Duvernay can be rostered. If it is a game where he can bust through for some deep plays, he can be started, but seeing more consistency might be necessary first. He is currently available in just under 85 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Ty Davis-Price, RB, San Francisco 49ers
As mentioned, Davis-Price is going to miss a few weeks due to an ankle injury. Before that though, he had 14 carries in week 2 for 33 yards. He looks like he can be a factor in the 49ers’ backfield for the long-haul once he returns from injury.
Picking up Davis-Price may be tough for some fantasy managers, as he won’t be productive for the next few weeks. For managers that have an IR spot open, Davis-Price should be added and stashed there until he returns. He is currently available in over 95 percent of ESPN leagues.
