One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream week 8. (Note: All defenses mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues. Stats from before Monday Night Football)
1. Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs have a decent fantasy defense, ranking 16th in the country at 6.0 points per game. They tallied one double-digit scoring game, which was against the Cincinnati Bengals. Their one negative scoring game was against the Baltimore Ravens in week 1.
In week 8, the Kansas City Chiefs play the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders are scoring just 17.7 points per game. They have traded away their best offensive player, Davante Adams, and have had injuries. With their limited firepower, the Chiefs should have a good game. They are rostered in 31.9 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Houston Texans
Houston has a good fantasy defense, ranking seventh at 7.7 points per game. They have three games in which they scored double-digit points. Those games were against the Bears, Patriots and Packers. Their season-low was a one point game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
This week the Texans play the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts scored just 16 points against the Miami Dolphins in week 7. Anthony Richardson returned to the lineup, but the Colts scored under their season average of 22.1 points per game. Houston can get pressure on Richardson and force turnovers. The Texans are rostered in 39.2 percent of ESPN rosters.
3. Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers rank 12th as a fantasy defense this season at 9.0 points per game. They have two double-digit scoring games, which were against the Raiders and Panthers. So far this season, they have no negative-scoring games.
In week 8, the Chargers play the New Orleans Saints. While the Saints started the season off well, but they have scored more than 20 points just twice in their last five games. The Saints have plenty of offensive players injured in the last few weeks who may not be back for this game, including starting quarterback Derek Carr. Los Angeles should be able to have a good game and are rostered in 30.7 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Green Bay Packers
Green Bay has had a great fantasy defense this season, ranking third at 10.0 points per game. Their three double-digit scoring games were against the Colts, Titans and Rams. They have no negative-scoring games so far this season.
The matchup this week for the Packers is with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jacksonville scores 20.7 points per game, which is in the bottom half of the league. They have scored more than 20 points just twice this season. With the Packers excelling in turnovers, they can limit the scoring and possibly get some interceptions. They are rostered in 34 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Chicago Bears
Chicago has also had a great fantasy defense this season, ranking fourth at 11.5 points per game. They have three double-digit scoring games, which were against the Titans, Panthers and Jaguars. So far, they have no negative-scoring games.
The Bears will be coming off a bye this week to play the Washington Commanders. It is a tough matchup, but the Bears are talented. Jayden Daniels left the Commanders’ game in week 7 with a rib injury. He seems to be ok, but it may limit him. Chicago could really make a point by having their defense play well in this game. They are rostered in just 43.7 percent of ESPN leagues.
