One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream week 16. (Note: All defenses mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues. Stats from before Monday Night Football)
1. Buffalo Bills
The Bills have had a solid fantasy defense this season, ranking 10th at 6.4 points per game. They have three negative-scoring games, which were against the Ravens, Rams and Lions. On the other hand, they have six games with double-digit points, coming to the Dolphins, Jaguars, Titans, Seahawks, Colts and 49ers.
This week, the Bills play the New England Patriots. The Patriots score 17 points per game, which ranks 31st in the league. Buffalo has a solid defense and their defensive line should be able to take advantage of a bad Patriots’ offensive line. The Bills are rostered in 48.1 percent completion.
2. Green Bay Packers
Green Bay has one of the best fantasy defenses in the league this season, ranking fifth at 8.4 points per game. They have five double-digit outings, which were against the Colts, Titans, Rams, 49ers and Seahawks. The Packers have no negative-scoring games on the season.
In week 16, the Packers play the New Orleans Saints. While the Saints score 22.1 points per game, they will likely be starting rookie Spencer Rattler at quarterback this week. Star running back Alvin Kamara also is dealing with a groin injury and is day-to-day. The Packers can keep the momentum going and are rostered in 41.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons haven’t been good defensively, ranking 30th at 3.1 points per game. They have two games, against the Chargers and Saints, in which they scored double-digit points. Atlanta has three negative-scoring games, which were against the Saints, Broncos and Vikings.
This week, the Falcons will match up with the New York Giants. The Giants score a league-low 14.9 points per game. To make things worse for the Giants, they have had quarterback issues and Tim Boyle may start this game after relieving Tommy DeVito, who left week 15 with an injury. Atlanta doesn’t have the best defense, but the matchup is favorable. They are rostered in just 15 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders have a bad fantasy defense at 3.3 points per game, ranking 29th. Their one double-digit scoring game was against the Cleveland Browns. They have one negative-scoring game this season, which was to the Carolina Panthers.
Las Vegas will be coming off a short week, but will be playing the Jaguars. Jacksonville scores just 18.8 points per game this season and will be without starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The Raiders can limit what Mac Jones can do and have a solid game. They are rostered in 3.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville has been bad defensively, ranking 31st at 1.9 points per game. They have one double-digit scoring game, which was against the Patriots. Four games have resulted in negative scores, which were against the Bills, Packers, Lions and Jets.
The Jaguars will match up with the Raiders in week 16. Desmond Ridder is expected to start at quarterback after the Raiders have had several injuries at quarterback. The Raiders score 18.2 points per game, ranking 27th in the league. They have not scored 20 points in any of the last four games. Jacksonville is rostered in 14.8 percent of ESPN leagues.
