One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions almost every week to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream in week 15. (Note: All defense mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks have had an average fantasy defense this year, as they rank 16th. They have three double-digit performances this season. With 13 interceptions and 16 fumble recoveries on the season, they make plays. Their defense also has three defensive touchdowns on the season.
Seattle should have a good game this week on the defensive side of the ball, as they play the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers rank 26th against opposing defenses in fantasy this season and Kyle Allen has been struggling. Their defense is owned in 34.3 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
While they don’t get a lot of recognition, the Bucs rank 13th as a fantasy defense this season. They have three double-digit performances, with two of those three coming in the last three weeks. The Bucs have four touchdowns and 34 sacks on the season. They do have two negative scoring performances, but those came against much better teams than they will play this week.
Tampa Bay plays the Detroit Lions, who rank 14th against opposing defenses. That is an inflated number, as the Lions will be without quarterback Matthew Stafford. David Blough has started for the Lions and they have had trouble moving the ball. They are owned in under 10 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. New York Giants
The Giants have had a tough time on defense this season and they rank 25th in fantasy. They do have two double-digit performances and can usually take advantage when they play a less talented team. Those two performances were against the Redskins and the Cardinals.
They have another favorable matchup this week against the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins are the second worst team in the league against fantasy defenses. They could also be without DeVante Parker, their best receiver, who has a concussion. New York should be able to step it up this week. Their defense is owned in just 4.4 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Miami Dolphins
Both teams in this matchup have bad offenses. The Dolphins have the worst fantasy defense in the league, so this is a risky play. They have just one double-digit performance this season and have plenty of bad games this year.
If an owner is desperate enough to play the Dolphins, it is all about the matchup. The Giants rank last against opposing defenses this season. Miami is owned in just 1.1 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City surprisingly has the 11th ranked fantasy defense this season. They have five double-digit scoring performances, which includes the last two games. The Chiefs have seven outings of four points or fewer, but it seems like the defense is coming together more recently.
This week, the Chiefs play a rookie quarterback in Drew Lock. Lock has been great in his first few games, but teams now have tape on him. Kansas City should be able to play him tough. The defense is available in over 75 percent of ESPN leagues.
