One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream week 13. (Note: All defense mentioned are rostered in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
*All stats and rankings from before Monday Night Football
1. Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia has had an above-average fantasy defense this season, ranking 12th in the league at 6.1 points per game. The Eagles have scored double-digit points four different times this season. They have two negative-scoring performances on the year to bring the average down. The Eagles have feasted when they play bad offenses this season.
The Eagles will get a favorable matchup in week 13, as they play the New York Jets. They score 18.1 points per game and have had issues with throwing too many interceptions. Philadelphia should be able to capitalize on the matchup and put up some points. They are currently rostered in just 44.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Miami Dolphins
Miami has the 10th-best fantasy defense at 6.4 points scored per game. They have been on fire recently, scoring double-digit points in three of the last four weeks. Their season-high came in week 12 against the Panthers when they scored 25. They do have two negative scoring performances on the season too.
The Dolphins play the Giants in week 13. New York has just fired their offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and they have struggled to score points at 18.4 per game. With the Dolphins playing so well, it is unlikely the Giants will be able to score too many points. The Dolphins are rostered in just 43.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota has an average fantasy defense that ranks 18th in the league at 5.0 points per game. They have one double-digit performance on the season, which came in week 5. Their one negative-scoring performance came against the Packers in week 11. They are a safer defense to play because of the lack of volatility.
In week 13 the Vikings play the Lions. The Lions were the one team that the Vikings scored double-digit points against this season. With D’Andre Swift banged up and an offense that scores just 15.8 points per game, Minnesota has the clear edge on the defensive side of the ball. They are rostered in just 14.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. New York Giants
The Giants have a below-average fantasy defense, ranking 20th at 4.5 points per game. They have three double-digit scoring performances on the year. The defense does have four negative-scoring performances too though. They are coming off their second-best performance of the season, when they scored 12 against the Eagles.
New York plays Miami in week 13. The Dolphins have played better as of late, but still averaged 19.5 points per game. Even though the Giants appear on this list, it is still a risk to play them. It is worth considering keeping a defense and playing them if it comes this far. The Giants are rostered in just 2.6 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. New York Jets
The Jets have the worst defense in fantasy football. They rank 32nd at 0.7 points per game. Their one double-digit performance came in week 12 against Houston. They have four negative-scoring performances on the year, including a -11 point outing against the Patriots.
In week 13, the Jets play the Eagles. Philadelphia is coming off of a rough game against the Giants where quarterback Jalen Hurts struggled. The Jets are another team that should only be played in an absolute disaster scenario. They are available in over 97 percent of ESPN leagues.
