Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are five players to add in fantasy football week 17.
1. Gus Edwards, RB, Baltimore Ravens
Over the last several weeks, Gus Edwards has stepped up. He has three double-digit performances in standard scoring leagues over the last four weeks. In week 16, J.K. Dobbins left with a chest injury and returned, but Edwards played well with 85 rushing yards and 37 receiving yards.
With Dobbins banged up and Mark Ingram not getting much work, Edwards is the running back to own on the Ravens heading into week 17. The Ravens play the Bengals in week 17 with a lot to play for, so Edwards should have a big day. Edwards is owned in 24.1 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Malcolm Brown, RB, Los Angeles Rams
Brown has been an inconsistent this season, as have most of the Rams running backs. He had seven rushes for 27 yards and one catch for eight yards in week 16. There are three weeks where he has been able to boom with double-digit points scored.
In week 17, Brown should be getting more work, as both Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson have ankle injuries. Even if they are able to play, they will not be 100 percent. The Rams are playing the Cardinals and Brown has a chance to help them make the playoffs. Brown is rostered in 33 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. A.J. Dillon, RB, Green Bay Packers
Against the Titans in week 16, Dillon had his coming out party. He rushed 21 times for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Dillon also had a catch for five yards. It was his best performance by far and Dillon should’ve earned himself more carries out of the backfield.
Jamaal Williams was out for week 16 and Aaron Jones had a nagging toe injury, but played. With both players not 100 percent, Dillon is likely to get more work. The Packers play a tough Bears team this week, but they’ll have plenty of motivation, as they lock up the number one seed with a win. Dillon is available in over 96 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Zach Pascal, WR, Indianapolis Colts
Over the last two weeks, Pascal has produced a lot for the Colts. In week 15, he had five catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns. This past week against the Steelers, he totaled three catches for 64 yards and a touchdown. It looks like a trend that may continue this week for Pascal.
The Colts will have a favorable matchup going up against the Jaguars. They will keep their foot on the gas because they need to win and get some help to make the playoffs. Pascal is owned in 1.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Philip Rivers, QB, Indianapolis Colts
With the exception of last week against the Steelers, Rivers has consistently put up good numbers this season. From weeks 10-15, Rivers put up at least 16 points in every game. He has played well enough to be considered an add, especially in week 17.
This week, the Colts play the Jaguars, which gives Rivers a chance to have a huge game. With it being a must-win scenario, the Colts will want to leave no doubts. Week 17 means that some of the top quarterbacks may be sitting, but Rivers is a solid replacement. He is available in just under 85 percent of ESPN leagues.
