To be the best at Fortnite, you need to know when to be patient. Patience matters because it can save a player from a lot of unnecessary fighting and engagements. Pushing an enemy when they’re alone happens, but being aware helps avoid the situation altogether. Waiting to third party a person or until pushing is necessary not only helps to save materials, but health as well. Pushing too early and shooting the gun leaves you susceptible to being third partied, especially in late game. It also can leave you in a bad spot if a fight breaks out immediately after.
Survival
In all battle royale games, the goal is to live as long as possible and the last player standing wins. RNG is a factor, but it isn’t as bad as people make it out to be. Any good players can survive with the loadout given to them, however unfortunate it may be.
If a player is not comfortable with their loadout, they always have the option to box up. A proper box includes four walls around and a floor and cone on the top and bottom of the structure. Boxing up this way allows players to peek around and see people without the possibility of being shot. This ensures players are safe when deciding to push an opponent or wait for them to fight to take the scraps.
When fights do begin, surviving just comes down to winning 1v1’s. In every fight, only one player will win, so winning that fight is essential. This just comes down to hitting shots. Especially in close quarters gameplay, hitting your shots is the only real way to ensure survival. Building can only help so much, and that shotgun shot becomes very important as the fight goes on.
Players should also look to end fights quickly so they do not risk being third partied. This just makes the situation worse as it now feels like a 2v1 and you have to kill two enemies. All of these tips will help that player live longer and boost up IQ.
Conserving Resources
Showing patience will also reward players with a higher material count at the end of the game. When the circle is small and enemies alive are low, it is important to try and pick your fights. Getting into too many fights too close together is trouble late game. With no teammates to bail you out, there is a lot of room for error. Simply staying in your box will ensure you do not waste any material and is the better option if your material count is high.
If the player does not have too many materials, killing an enemy is definitely a way to get it, but is risky. If winning is the goal, it is a lot easier to farm material and save materials as long as possible. Fights in the top five almost always get third partied, so engaging is a high-risk high-reward scenario. Win the fight with minimal damage and you most likely win the game. Lose the fight and you have to live with your mistake back in the lobby.
Zone
Playing the zone also requires a lot of patience and timing. Instead of pushing every fight going on, being smart and pushing zone early helps greatly. Fighting while the zone is closing isn’t fun and can burn a lot of material if you’re trying to escape a fight. Simply building up in the circle and hitting people as they rotate is a great option. This works because players are forced to build while they rotate, making them use resources. It also causes a panic in some players, making them easier to kill if they can’t handle the pressure.
Patience comes in handy here for this and for shots. Just because you shoot an enemy does not mean they have to be killed. Landing a few shots on this guy and on that guy will weaken everyone around you, giving you the best chance for survival.
When the circle is so small that it begins to shift back into the storm, players need to get closest to where it will move to. Moving to the closest spot means you will move last, allowing you to put fire on your opponents. This is super useful because if they do not shoot back, they will likely use all of their builds left just getting to zone, leaving you with high ground and material to spare.
Playing for the Win
Winning with lots of kills is great, but just winning in general is enough for most people. Securing a Victory Royale means that you played a great game and were smarter than the other opponent. Winning can be RNG based at times, but ultimately comes down to decision making. Deciding when to push enemies and when to box up is crucial since it allows you to stay safe. If enemies are weak, pushing and applying constant pressure is the easiest way to get that kill.
Some players who aren’t as confident can box up and avoid being shot from all angles while still peeking around. Paying attention to the zone and where high ground is also boosts your chances; You will have a better view of everything around you, as well as all the players. Sitting back and conserving materials can be a huge help late game because once those last two guys start fighting, it is game over. Third partying and killing them while they are weak will seal the deal on top of that victory royale. These tips are not guaranteed, but they do show exactly how being patient in certain situations cuts down on a lot of risks, making you the 200 IQ player in the lobby.
