As Week One of Division B draws to a close, Call of Duty fans got a chance to see some of their favourite teams back in action after a considerable break. Were all teams able to shake off the rustiness? Join us as we break down all the action from Week One.
¡Vamos Heretics!
Quickly becoming a fan favourite squad, Team Heretics resumed their strong form from the Pro League Qualifier, topping the Division with a flawless 4-0 record. What surprised many fans was their red-hot start, with an impressive 3-2 victory over CWL Las Vegas runner ups, eUnited. The performances of Juan Antonio ‘JurNii’ González and Alejandro ‘Lucky’ López didn’t go unnoticed, with their top 10 Kill/Death ratios of 1.16 earning them a spot in the SCUF Gaming Team of the Week. What awaits next week is a tough matchup with Splyce, who are currently on their tails at a 3-0 record. Nonetheless, Team Heretics find themselves in a very strong position, and are doing the European Call of Duty community very proud.
Splyce Still Strong
A team with one of the longest breaks in Competitive play, Splyce have been out of action since their solid third-placed finish at CWL Las Vegas. This hasn’t proved to be a problem for the squad, however, as they start the Division with a perfect 3-0 record. Donovan ‘Temp’ Laroda picked up right where he left off, dropping a solid 1.14 K/D to grab his spot in the Team of the Week. Teammate Ulysses ‘Aqua’ Silva also grabbed a spot, coming in just behind at a 1.13. This really shows the impressive slaying power the squad has, which is hard for any team to match. On their day, Splyce can be the best team in the game, and they will certainly like their odds going into the top of the Division crunch match with Team Heretics next week.
100 Thieves Consistently Inconsistent
Much was made of the pressures on 100 Thieves going into this week, following high profile roster moves and team chemistry issues. The squad have maintained their inconsistency from the Pro League Qualifiers, with a 1-2 performance this week. Picking up a win against bottom of the Division Denial Esports couldn’t spark the momentum the squad is desperate for, as they fall short against Division top dogs Splyce and eUnited. With current leaders Team Heretics awaiting them in Week Two, 100T will need to go back to the drawing board yet again. With an abysmal 1-3 record in Search and Destroy, there is still evidence of a lack of chemistry in the squad, underpinned by their lack of clutch factor in the game five against eUnited.
Team Envyus Struggling
Team Envyus are in a similar boat to 100T, in the sense that they can be a very inconsistent squad. Cuyler ‘Huke’ Garland put up a huge League topping K/D of 1.36, but this was only enough to amount to a 1-2 finish in Week One. The big setback in the week was their series loss to Excelerate Gaming, who also find themselves with a 1-2 record. A loss to Splyce is more forgivable, and they manage to pick up a win against Denial. The key for this squad will be picking up wins against fellow mid-Division dwellers, starting with a big match against 100 Thieves on Monday.
